Mikvah Calendar was founded in 2009 as a web based program.[1] The site assists Jewish couples in calculating important times relating to Taharat Hamishpachah. The site supports Ashkenazic, Sephardic, and Chabad customs.[2] It reported receiving tens of thousands of visitors in its first month online.[2] The site has an 'Ask the Rabbi' feature which enables users to email questions anonymously,[1] and is able to send email and SMS reminders.[2]

Founder

edit

Mikvah Calendar is the brainchild of Rebbetzin Rivkah Bloom, who holds both a bachelors and masters degree in Computer Science from MIT.[2] She originally devised the website after receiving requests from women regarding mikvah. Working with a colleague from MIT, the program took Bloom four years to develop. They expect to continue to upgrade the site based on user input.[1]

Taharat Hamishpachah

edit

Taharat Hamishpachah is considered one of the three most important laws of Jewish family life. The law dictates that during a woman's menstrual cycle as well as anticipated menstrual cycle, a couple must refrain from intimacy. A woman immerses in a mikvah at the end of her menstruation time.
