"Userboxes of a political or, more broadly, polemical, nature are bad for the project."
-Jimbo Wales, 21 Jan 2006
"We don't act in Wikipedia as a Democrat, a Republican, a pro-Lifer, a pro-Choicer, or whatever. Here we are Wikipedians, which means: thoughtful, loving, neutral." -Jimbo Wales
  • Jimbo's request
    • Recently Jimbo said that he thought political and religious userboxes were harming the project, and asked Wikipedians to remove any they had on their userpages and to ask others to do the same. I decided to take up this suggestion, and I've been cataloguing all the users whose user or talk pages I've edited over the past year, and are still active, to see which of them do and do not use political or religious userboxes. The results (see link above) are interesting.

David Gerard has put a notice on his user page. I think it's a very good idea so I've added it here. If you're an administrator and you also want to provide a service like this, include the template {{user recovery}} somewhere on your user page. Only administrators are able to provide this service.

Surreal Brittlestar. Tony, I award you the Surreal Barnstar... there is nothing I consider more surreal and "wild-card" on Wikipedia right now than willingly diving headlong into the seething array of flak guns that is the userbox inferno. Call it courage, call it batshit insanity... either way, that's a barnstar. FCYTravis 10:22, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Supernova of common sense

For your valiant attempt to curb userbox abuse. Qarnos 14:45, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

My user page, talk and subpage layout were ripped off from various places, particularly Andrevan's page (and his talk page), and Jimbo Wales' page. Most of the template work is mine. RoyBoy fixed the current incarnation of the top navigation, which used to be 800x600-busting.
