"Teri Ore" (transl. Towards you) is a song from the 2008 Hindi film Singh Is Kinng, sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The lyrics for the song were written by Mayur Puri and the music is composed by Pritam.[1]

"Teri Ore" received positive reception from audiences and as of January 2024, the song was still one of Ghoshal's top 10 songs.[2]

Music video

The song is picturized upon Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, lead cast of the film. The song expresses the couples' deep love for each other. It gives a look at the chemistry between them. The video shows Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar) and Sonia Singh (Katrina Kaif) dancing in front of pyramids and expressing their love for each other.[3][2]

Filming

The music video was shot at The Great Sphinx and Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt.[4] The choreographer Bosco Martis revealed to Mid-Day that "Teri Ore" was shot in 6 hours. He said, "the song was done in six hours, with Katrina changing, we were in Egypt, we had to shoot the pyramids and there was a lot to shoot. We were lucky we could do that."[5]

Upon the release of the song, it gained lots of appreciation for its music by critics and listeners alike.

Critical reviews

Joginder Tuteja of Bollywood Hungama described the song as a "romantic duet" and said that Ghoshal and Khan "made this well written Mayur Puri track a delightful hearing".[6] Tajpal Rathore from BBC wrote that "Ghosal's angelic vocals lift the song to new heights, while Khan joins in to support this lilting fairytale ballad that is surely the highlight of this soundtrack."[7] However, Raja Sen of Rediff.com gave a negative response and said that the song "provides the listener with the nearly mandatory track-to-skip."[8]

Audience response

A Bollywood Hungama user describing the song as "the best song of the album", further said that "the slow romantic love song is unarguably the best track in respect of composition and effect."[9]

Accolades

"Teri Ore" won the award at the 54th ceremony of India's Filmfare AwardsBest Female Playback Singer for Ghoshal.[10] The song also won at the 10th ceremony of India's IIFA AwardsBest Female Playback Singer for Ghoshal.[11]

Impact

As of December 2021, Kumar and Kaif's pair in the song was one of the most liked Bollywood moment for Kaif's fans. After an old video of Kaif and Vicky Kaushal went viral on social media, Kaif's fans thought that the song was best suited for Kaif and Kaushal. Reacting to the video, users shared pictures of the couple on social media.[12]
