Template:Italic title suffixed?

edit

Why isn't there a Template:Italic title suffixed? I understand the same effect can be accomplished with DISPLAYTITLE, but if we have this template the other case might as well be handled by a special template too. –CWenger (^@) 16:15, 7 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Problems with long titles

edit

I am wondering why the template does not seem to work on long titles like Russian submarine Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy (K-211) or Russian submarine Svyatoy Georgiy Pobedonosets (K-433). Is there a limit on the number of characters? Both article titles have more than 50. ÄDA - DÄP VA (talk) 09:03, 26 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Middle-italicized only

edit

It would be useful for Template:Italic title prefixed (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) to take a length of italicization or end of italicization position parameter, to go with the start parameter, to set the length of middle-of-string italicization; instead of italicizing to the end. This would help with non-parenthetical disambiguation, such as using commas, or Fooian Xname-class vesseltype (year) style article titles. -- 64.229.90.32 (talk) 23:20, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

  Not done: this template is only for prefixed italic titles such as the USS Constitution. To make a title appear as "Fooian Xname-class vesseltype (year)" the {{Italic title}} template is used in the following way:
{{Italic title|string=Xname}}
One of many examples is found at List of The Twilight Zone (1959 TV series) episodes. Thank you for your concerns! P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 23:51, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
"Fooian Fooian-class type (year)" would have two instances of "string" there. As would "Fooian Year-class type (year)" and "Fooian Type-class type (year)". Wouldn't these result in multiple italicized instances in the title using {{italic title}} ? -- 64.229.90.32 (talk) 18:12, 6 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Maybe my eyes are deceiving me, but I see only one string in each of your three examples, "Fooian", "Year" and "Type", respectively. And if there are more than one instance of italics in a title, then you can use the {{DISPLAYTITLE:}} magic word. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 17:05, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
For example:
{{DISPLAYTITLE:Fooian ''Fooian''-class ''type'' (year)}} will yield:
Fooian Fooian-class type (year)
