Image problems

edit

Just to point out that User:Hurricane Devon's revision of 24 July 2006 has introduced a significant bug into the template, in that it now behaves badly if no value is provided for the "image" parameter. (See Maffei 1 group of galaxies for instance.) --Paul A 08:19, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

In my revisions of the template, the problem went away. GeorgeJBendo 11:18, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Parameter names

edit

Some parameters were missing underscores (which is the convention, and which is used in the documentation) in the actual template wikitext. I'm checking to make sure that didn't break it on pages, in case someone had figured out how to make it work with spaces. Ardric47 (talk) 15:43, 11 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've looked at the transclusions. I didn't notice any parameters that contained spaces, so everything should be working at least as well as before. Some uses in articles include galactic and supergalactic coordinates, and other parameters which aren't actually in the template (yet?). I didn't do anything to them. I just sandboxed "brightest_member" and "member no" without any rendering problems, so spaces and underscores are treated equivalently. Keeping or removing "_" is a matter of taste/style it seems. @Italia2006: removed the data underscores back in May 2014, in case they have some input on this.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkcontribsdgaf)  17:50, 12 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, what did I do? Italia2006 (talk) 19:01, 12 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
You removed "_" from parameter names (which is fine, as long as the transclusion parameters match the template's), Ardric47 put them back (also fine), so I'm wondering if there's a benefit either way, if there's a standard, or if it's just personal preference.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkcontribsdgaf)  19:18, 12 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
It does work (or rather, used to work) with spaces, but the documentation showed underscores. No one who had used it (I looked at all transclusions) had realized that the parameters should have used spaces; thus, number of members or brightest member weren't showing anywhere on Wikipedia. Do you want to repeat that for any other astronomy infoboxes, Ardric47? That is, to make sure the transclusion params match the templates' (using a tool like AWB).   ~ Tom.Reding (talkcontribsdgaf)  13:00, 13 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Is that a problem for any other templates? Ardric47 (talk) 22:46, 13 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Binding mass?

edit

In practice, this field is being used for the total mass of galaxy clusters, not the mass-equivalent of the binding energy. That makes sense because it's called "mass" internally and there's no other place in the template for the actual mass. I will change it to "Total mass" if nobody objects soon.
