Suggestion

edit

I would like to suggest that some more data be added to this infobox, to look like this(apart from my notes added):

Infobox engineering career
Alma materNote 1.
OccupationEngineer

Note 1. From Infobox scientist (A note there says that Infobox scientist can also be used for an engineer, but I think that for engineer this template ought to be used)

Note 2. Here one could specify the work activity, for instance Research and development, Education, Management, Organisation, or other(?) LouisBB (talk) 07:05, 1 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to see a field included for religion,per {{infobox person}}. Mjroots (talk) 08:50, 13 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion 2

edit

What about "residence" field, like in Infobox person template? --BiH (talk) 18:04, 22 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

|practice_name

edit

What is "|practice_name" for? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 21:58, 18 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ): it given a microformat of "org", so I am assuming it's the organization under which the individual "practices engineering". it's been in the infobox since it's inception, but should probably be migrated to a less opaque term. RfC on Template:Infobox person

edit

This message is to notify you that there is an RfC ongoing on whether to add pronunciation info to {{Infobox person}}, a discussion which may also affect this template. Your comments on the matter are appreciated. The discussion can be found here. Thanks! 0x0077BE (talk · contrib) 17:23, 16 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Bugs

edit

Hi, I noticed that when you put an entry into Institution, once saved it is changing to Membership. Is this normal behaviour or a wee bug. Scope creep (talk) 01:01, 18 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Scope creep, fixed. Frietjes (talk) 15:34, 16 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Customized wrapper

edit

Ihe customized wrapper aspect of {{Infobox engineer}} does not work. paramaters such as |family= and |home_town= cause errors. Please fix.--Auric talk 22:09, 24 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

added to {{Infobox engineer}}. Frietjes (talk) 13:05, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • It also fails for |occupation=. Unfortunately at least one editor (Ahwiv (talk · contribs)) has been going through and removing this correct parameter from this broken template wrapper (which neither fixes the problem, but also makes it hard to recover in the future). Yet again, a simplistic response about avoiding an error message, even if it breaks articles.
Note that the parameter is still needed in the articles. Most of these were civil engineers - there are sub-disciplines within "engineer", and these need to be preserved. Andy Dingley (talk) 01:07, 31 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • |relatives=
  • |net_worth=
  • |residence= too. Did anyone look at maintaining this properly? Why are we even having to hand-wrap params in each sub-classed template? Isn't that the whole point of using Lua? Andy Dingley (talk) 01:11, 31 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Add known_for field

edit

Please add a field for known_for, as the Infobox_scientist template has. As in Adrian Hooke, known for "cofounder of CCSDS". (I've used the field there, but it's flagged as unsupported, and doesn't display.) Thanks! James A Hinnant (talk) 06:00, 13 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

parameters

edit

|relatives= from infobox person would be useful (used in Auguste Lumière) and |known_for= as requested above. Frietjes? MB 17:31, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

User:MB, it looks like Auguste Lumière already has |relatives= or that wouldn't appear in the infobox. Frietjes (talk) 17:37, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Frietjes, earlier today it was not displayed in the infobox, the article was in Category:Pages using infobox engineer with unknown parameters, which is how I found this, and there was the "unknown parameter" warning when editing. But all that is gone now. The other article in the category, Louis Lumière, is also gone now. I'm not sure what happened. I did edit both articles for other changes - did that do something? MB 18:09, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
User:MB, I used a script to regenerate the list of known parameters. people occasionally add parameters but don't add them to the tracking module. Frietjes (talk) 18:33, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
