Accessibility

edit

Hello, I'm working in the Wikipedia:Accessibility project, and this template probably present some accessibility problems to non-visual browsers. For example, see with lynx (web browser) a page using this template. Probably this template should create a list, and with some additional info in each elements for non-visual browsers. See Dive into Accessibility's chapter about HTML lists for more info about why is so important to use the correct syntax for accessibility. Thanks! --surueña 13:33, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Some assistance please?

edit

I come to you, my Wiki-brothers, from the great land of The Guild Wars Wiki with a question as to the formatting of this template. I recently began incorporating an interactive map template on that site, and I was a little confused as to some of the coding used here. I "borrowed" the code for image label begin, image label, and image label end, and some of it is a bit confusing.

We wanted to change the font sizes and colors, and in general have other variables for icons and such. Is this something that can be applied at the template level or does it have to be done for each individual marking? An annotated copy of the code for image label would be amazingly helpful since I tghink I could figure it out from there.

I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong area or anything, and I really hope people actually check these pages still, it seems this page is often left unanswered. Farlo (talk) 19:34, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Alternatives

edit

Just tried to use these templates and found myself wanting more options for font size. There already exists Template:Image label small, but I've just created Template:Image label custom which takes "font" and "bold" properties. Font is just a CSS font-size property and bold is a binary that only recognizes "yes" or defaults to no. Input and modifications welcome. I imagine it would make sense to allow for other CSS properties, but for now it's just a way to be more flexible for size. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 15:12, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've made an edit to the sandbox adding a new variable {{{background}}}, for which any non-null value will at a 50% white background to the text div with 2px of horizontal padding, so that labelled map templates can be made more accessible. I've added |background=yes to Template:Switzerland Cantons Labelled Map, so there's a template you can test it against. — OwenBlacker (Talk) 22:55, 3 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Introducing font-stretch parameter

edit

With this parameter you'll have another way to deal with an image label that could be overflowed, by making use of font-stretch property this parameter could make text width elongated or shortened, you can see Template:NFPA 704 diamond for the effect of this property. The new source code available at Template:Image label/sandbox now.

Also see the documentation at MDN. -- Great Brightstar (talk) 11:51, 2 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
