Equals sign error

If you try to include an external link with an equals sign (=) in it, it won't display.

• This will display:{{hlist|[https://archive.org/details/softline_magazine]}}
  • • [1]
• This will not:{{hlist|[https://archive.org/details/softline_magazine?sort=week]}}

@TarkusAB: This is expected behaviour, see Help:Template#Hints and workarounds, second bullet. You should do this:

• {{hlist|1=[https://archive.org/details/softline_magazine?sort=week]}} →
  • [2]

class=inline not working outside demo

Using |class=inline works on the doc page, but doesn't in real life. The difference is whether {{markup}} is used - compare

Markup	Renders as
Giant planets ({{hlist|class=inline|[[Jupiter|J]]|[[Saturn|S]]|[[Uranus|U]]|[[Neptune|N]]}}).	Giant planets ( J S U N ).

with

Got it. You need to wrap the whole line in a block element ({{markup}} uses <td>...</td>) in order to "kill" the implicit <p>...</p>, such as:

Giant planets (

• J
• S
• U
• N

).

Bull?

I find the mid dots rather small for some displays and so I would like them to be changed to the slightly larger • character. However, I expect that such a global change might not go down too well. Could we instead add some CSS so that we can say something like {{hlist |class=inline,bull | ...?

No interest? Fixed it for me by adding: mw.util.addCSS('.hlist li::after {content: " • " !important;} .hlist li:last-child::after {content: none !important;}'); to my local user script — GhostInTheMachine ^{talk to me} 17:39, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
