, and it already does. Part of the hookiness is the contrast between the very American content of the book and the lack of publication in that country's usual language (the latter part of the hook providing the real world involvement). Is that a trend in recent fiction that I've completely missed? I know that DYKFICTION requires the hook involving the real world, which is why I'm not pulling it, but the contents of fictional works can be anything, and like I said I don't see anything "hookily" paradoxical about the plot-RL contrast. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 17:36, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- It's 'very American' in the sense that I think to a reader, the plot'll initially come across as rather American in its preoccupation with Christian nationalism (a big current topic in U. S. politics) and American balkanization (a long-standing trope in American speculative fiction). Seeing the plot, I was intrigued by the book being published only in French, as I wondered what would draw French-reading audiences' interest. As for seeing anything 'hooky' in the contrast between them, that's a matter of disagreement between us, I guess.Without the middle clause, it comes across as being simply another case of an American expatriate author in France, and there've been lots of those.
