Redundant slash edit

I am very new to wikipedia.

Because of that, I do not dare to make the change myself but instead I only propose ... and I don't know, if I'll get any response on this so far blank talk page.

Why are there too slashes at the end of the fixed part of the URL ?

Shouldn't the template say only http://www.informatik.uni-trier.de/~ley/db/indices/a-tree/ instead of http://www.informatik.uni-trier.de/~ley/db/indices/a-tree// ?

The URLs generated with this template work, but contain a redundant slash ... making the URL look "not nice" --Vlada Mencl 03:33, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Stable identifier edit

I think we are using the wrong thing here. As specified:

  • "How to find the key of a person, a publication, or a stream?". FAQ. DBLP.
  • Ley, Michael (2009). DBLP: Some Lessons Learned (PDF). VLDB. Proceedings of the VLDB Endowment. Vol. 2, no. 2. pp. 1493–1500. doi:10.14778/1687553.1687577. ISSN 2150-8097.

Instead of pieces of the URL, we should be using Person IDs (DBLP pIDs) as specified by the organization's FAQ and in the paper by the lead developer. To rectify the issue, since we now have over 400 transclusions, I propose creating a new template {{DBLP pID}}, deprecating this one and transitioning over to the new one. We should probably consider using DBLP author ID (P2456) too. Uzume (talk) 12:57, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Instead of making a new template such as {{DBLP pID}}, I opted to just add {{{pid}}} (and DBLP author ID (P2456)) for the new behavior. I also added tracking for |id= via: Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:DBLP/id. We can rip out the old {{{id}}} (and its tracking) once we move everything away from using it. 50.53.1.33 (talk) 04:40, 24 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
It looks like there are only 7 articles left with the |id= parameter. Nice work! Once they are fixed, the parameter and the tracking category can be removed. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:19, 14 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Slowly but surely I have been working on this. I noticed you prematurely removed the sub-template tracking (breaking the tracking mentioned above). Why? I am aware of the following discussion: Wikipedia talk:Database reports/Archive 7#Request for report similar to Special:WantedTemplates. 50.53.1.21 (talk) 12:45, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
It seems we finally achieved this goal and I removed the deprecated (and unused) |id= support. As a side note, I also updated the category-based tracking to track |pid= instead which is inline with the Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:DBLP/pid tracking update.
