Redirect to Template:Country data Germany

edit

This needs to be redirected to Template:Country data Germany as all info is included there. Besides, it is plain wrong to associate FRG only with the period 1949-1990, as the Federal Republic exists since 1949, growing larger in 1957 and 1990.-- Matthead discuß!     O       16:50, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

There is only one Federal Republic of Germany, it was created in 1949 and it still exists today. There was no West German state that would have existed between 1949-1990, and already for that reason this template should not exist.
The only state that existed between those years was the German Democratic Republic, but neither of these states ever used the titles West or East Germany. In short form the Federal Republic was already then commonly called Germany, internationally this was the case for example in the olympic sports competitions.
It is worth to note that the German Democratic Republic never claimed to be the successor of the previous German states, but a completely new socialist state, that didn't claim the name Germany (or Deutschland) to be its own and indeed never used it. -91.32.240.202 (talk) 22:18, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree, the term is incorrect and should not be used, nor should there be a template for an none existing "West Germany", even though it might be slang in less educated media, it is and never was the name of a country. Jonathan0007 (talk) 05:28, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello,

There is a proposal to change this template to change the link generated by {{ru|FRG}}. Whether this change should be made is being discussed at Template talk:Ru#Handling of FRG. How to make the change is being discussed at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Avoiding redirection. – PartTimeGnome (talk | contribs) 16:23, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Can someone change this already? It's fairly simple as explained here Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 113#Avoiding redirection. Just add:
| link alias-rugby union = Germany {{{mw|}}} national {{{age|}}} rugby union team
It's time someone changed this, the page in question does not exist. And it's been done for every other sport. Thanks. Tibullus (talk) 23:12, 8 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. Since there is no sandbox or testcases page for this template, I'm assuming that you failed to follow PTG's advice: I'd suggest testing in the template's sandbox first.. This will need to be done to proceed. Thank you. — {{U|Technical 13}} (etc) 01:47, 9 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I created the sandbox here Template:Country data West Germany/sandbox. I just added the line I typed above. Now what? Thanks. Tibullus (talk) 02:19, 9 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
  Done I copied sandbox to live. --Redrose64 (talk) 08:30, 9 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Restore the template to the previous version (i.e. version of 26 May), as the flag of Germany has been the same since 1949. A discussion should take place with evidence provided prior to changing such a visible flag. S.A. Julio (talk) 09:01, 20 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Restore the template to the previous version as of 19 May 2018, as a discussion should take place with evidence provided prior to changing such a visible flag. No explanation for the change was given, and nothing on Flag of Germany indicates a different flag was used. S.A. Julio (talk) 21:36, 29 November 2018 (UTC) S.A. Illegitimate Barrister: Since you did not leave an edit summary, can you please explain why you changed this flag? The previous flag uses the 3:5 (0.60) dimensions described in Flag of Germany. The new version that you put in place has a ratio of 0.61625 instead, which appears to be wrong. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:39, 30 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Illegitimate Barrister has edited since Jonesey95 asked for input but not responded here. Reverting as requested by S.A. Julio so that discussion can take place. Cabayi (talk) 19:00, 30 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Commiserations for my tardy response. The reason I made the edit is because, as stated in the article on the German flag, the exact colors on the flag have changed since 1949; the colors used on the current version of the German flag were made official in June 1999 so using them before that date is anachronistic. – Illegitimate Barrister (talkcontribs), 19:03, 7 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
And the dimensional differences? – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:42, 7 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
The article states, "the exact colors used for the German flag were not officially defined at the time of the flag's adoption". It doesn't seem as though the flag has changed colours over time, only that the corporate design was adopted in 1999. It appears misleading, there has only been one flag, defined in the Basic Law. The "1949 variant" is not a real variant and should be removed (or link to Flag of Germany.svg if its breaks to much to remove it). The flag of West Germany is the same as now. Those shades of colour are a variation in the depicition. The flag of West Germany should always be the same as the current german flag. Havsjö (talk) 14:45, 5 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:29, 5 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Jonesey95: Just look at the Wikipedia article for Flag of Germany. There has been no change in the flag since it was adopted after WW2 (which is the same as the one used before it in Weimar, slight ratio difference on Weimar though)

I did look at Flag of Germany, which says The exact colours used for the German flag were not officially defined at the time of the flag's adoption and have changed since then. Please discuss at Talk:Flag of Germany. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:12, 5 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Code for this change is on the template page sandbox

Reason for is the same as change is discussed at Template_talk:Country_data_Germany#Template-protected_edit_request_on_7_January_2019, which is to remove the alias-1949 aka "gold" flag as there was no change to the design in that year, and also add missing state flag.
