Template talk:Administrator topicon

Function?

edit

Does this template have any additional function than simply showing on your presentation page that you are an administrator? Mikael Häggström (talk) 06:31, 23 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Request

{{editprotected}} Any chance we can use File:Admin mop.svg instead? It features the new logo, and is a vector version. Thanks. That image page may need to be updated/protected, though. IF not, I completely understand. Connormah (talk | contribs) 19:23, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

No thanks. Please gather consensus before proposing this change. mono 19:48, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
It is the same image, just in vector format. What's there to discuss, really? Connormah (talk | contribs) 20:14, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to be vague. I can see your point of view, as this is a technical change. However, the image on WP:ADMIN is the old logo, and there has been no consensus generated to update that logo. Since there have been many objections to the new logo, many are not sure they want to change everything this way. How about you start a discussion on WT:ADMIN? mono 20:19, 5 June 2010 (UTC), 20:20, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'll bring it up. Thanks for the clarification. Connormah (talk | contribs) 20:21, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Merge

edit

Can we merge this page with Template:Mop and mention it on WP:ADMIN? And also arrange use of this in Template:Admin Mop and Template:Adminstatus? :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 08:37, 10 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I don't think a merge is necessary since they serve two different functions. This template is meant to be used as a topicon while {{mop}} is for individual list items. -- œ 23:45, 3 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed change to template to make it add the category only on user pages (not talk pages)

edit

See here for a change I made (on my own personal copy of this template) to make it add the category on user pages only (and not on user talk pages). I did this because I reorganized my user page using tabs, made a common banner including my topicons, and wanted to use this on my user talk page (but without having it add my talk page to the admins category). I'm fairly new at writing/modifying templates, so I'd be grateful for any feedback or suggestions on this work. Also, I'd like to propose making this change in the production template (assuming there is a consensus, of course). — Richwales 06:31, 29 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Any feedback (pro or con) on this? The change appears to work fine for me on my own user page, and I believe it would be generally helpful and not break anything. — Richwales 20:38, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Uhhh ... yeah, that works. :-) Sorry, I should have checked the recent edit history of this template before posting my suggestions. Thanks. — Richwales 22:33, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Removal from inactive admin

edit

A number of admins have had their admin permissions provisionally suspended for users who have been inactive for one year. Should we replace the topicon with {{User wikipedia/Former administrator}}, or remove it?Smallman12q (talk) 15:50, 4 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Since it would require an edit either way, simple removal would be best I think. For one thing, the use of the word "former" can bring up questions of "why is it former?" (Implying there were issues when in truth there may not have been.)
Plus, should they ever return, it's a simple edit for them to restore at their discretion.
The same probably goes for any userbox which categorises the individual into Category:Administrators. - jc37 14:33, 25 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
