Inappropriate referencing edit

Please be advised that all references to ZipLocal press releases were removed from the body of the text. You cannot cite corporate press releases in Wikipedia articles. Please provide proper references or remove the claims listed in this article. Thank you. Ecoleetage (talk) 01:17, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Probably a few too many "fact" tags, but that's neither here nor there - thanks for the cleanup. Tan ǀ 39 01:19, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Launching into my Crusader Rabbit routine, I decided to be bold and rewrote the article. Actually, I chopped it down -- cut out the PR puffery and focused on the business model. I think it reads better. A few references are needed. The subject is notable (it was correct to save it in AfD), but the writing needed polish. Ecoleetage (talk) 01:34, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Word up. Great job. Tan ǀ 39 01:43, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Different company, same name edit

My client Ziplocal,LP found this Canadian company of the same name already on the Wiki, though the Canadian company is now defunct (?). If I create a new entry for my client, would it be acceptable to add a hatnote here pointing to the new entry? I don't think disambiguation would be necessary? Appreciate your guidance. Thanks --Misterkellas (talk) 15:03, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

NO. See your talk page as well as WP:COI. WuhWuzDat 17:25, 4 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
this article references a non-existing company of the same name as an existing company. It is also subject to a redirect on the term 'Ziplocal'. I may have a COI (which I have openly declared) but I would still like to provide factual information to clarify situation. --Misterkellas (talk) 17:43, 4 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

{{Request edit}} I do work, on occasion, with Ziplocal, as a consultant. I recognise that I went about my first contributions in the wrong way. Having read through the COI guidelines, I would now like to request some edits that I think might help clarify this article. I appreciate your advice, input and guidance here. Thanks.

Situation: as you can see above, there is still a company called Ziplocal, though it is technically the same in name only. The current company was created after the acquisition of ZipLocal's assets by Canpages and a couple of mergers (with PDCpages and then with Yellow Pages Group) (see the footnote 1 in the article about the sale, and these sources: http://www.rttnews.com/ArticleView.aspx?Id=1258724&pageNum=3 http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Yellow-Pages-Income-Fund-Reports-Q1-2010-Financial-Results-TSX-YLO.UN-1159933.htm

Suggested edits:

  1. To accommodate for the two variations in corporate names, suggest undoing the move from November 2010, when this page was moved from Ziplocal to ZipLocal,_inc,
  2. Change the intro to explain that the company still exists, and is still HQ'd in Canada
  3. Clean up the un-cited material in the 'Sale' section to focus on the history of Ziplocal after the sale. Specifically remove the content around number of customers/subscribers as this doesn't add any value to the article. The content about the sale to YPG could also benefit from simply sticking to the facts (see below for the history and sources). The opinion regarding possible competition bureau and competition may be interesting to keep, although there doesn't seem to be any source to back it up.
  4. Include the recent history of the company in the body of the article by either integrating the Sale section into history and adding the recent history of the company OR by adding more recent information after the Sale section. Recent history citations can be found here:
    1. partnership with PDC Pages forming the Ziplocal company in the US: http://www.rttnews.com/ArticleView.aspx?Id=1258724&pageNum=3
    2. Canpages acquired by Yellow Pages Group, and YPG ownership in the Ziplocal business http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Yellow-Pages-Income-Fund-Reports-Q1-2010-Financial-Results-TSX-YLO.UN-1159933.htm
    3. merger with Your Community Phone Book http://www.rttnews.com/Content/CanadianNews.aspx?Node=B1&Id=1255347&pageNum=2
  5. Update the information in the company profile box to the current company info and logo

Further sources which might be of interest can be found via Google news http://news.google.com/archivesearch?q=Ziplocal%2C+LP&btnG=Search+Archives&scoring=a I'd be happy to write any of the above and submit the changes here for review. Looking forward to your input and helping however I can -- Misterkellas (talk) 14:51, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

That sounds great -- I started a page for you at User:Misterkellas/ZipLocal to work on the other version of ZipLocal. It looks like you have a lot of sources, which is going to make it a whole lot easier to start the article. Also, I deleted the sale section -- the whole thing seemed like SPAM or baseless rumor mongering. If you have any questions or want more advice or help, let me know on my talk page, or put a {{help me}} template up on your user talk page and someone else will be along to help. :) Banaticus (talk) 10:35, 16 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
