Had to correct the assertion that 61/49 is the crossroads. Then I did some copyediting. I have no idea why the image of the bridge overlaps the text at the standard text size in Firefox. I tried resizing the pixel default, but that didn't help; the text moved under it. --216.237.179.238 23:19, 9 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

If anyone in the Greenville, MS area reads this they might be able to clear up the crossroads controversy with a visit to the local library's microfiche collection. I used to live there decades ago, and I remember once in the early 80s when the local paper, the Delta Democrat-Times, ran a feature about Robert Johnson. As I recall rather clearly (as clearly as is possible, I would suppose, after a quarter-century), the article stated that the northernmost Hwy 49 / Hwy 61 (now old Hwy 61, or State Street) in Clarksdale is almost certainly "The Crossroads" Johnson was singing about. The intersection had been locally known by that name since the 1920s.

I should mention that when I lived there, I regularly read both the local paper and the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. It's possible I'm confusing the two, and that it was the Memphis paper that ran the Robert Johnson feature. Berberry (talk) 06:19, 8 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

If the window width is right (e.g. full screen at 1152x864), the bridge image also overlaps the text in Internet Explorer 6. --Rich r 18:37, 15 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Map of U.S. 61

edit

FYI, I am aware the map of US 61 I uploaded on 7/4/06 has the old northern terminus of Grand Portage, MN. It's on my list of things to fix. Stratosphere 03:43, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Kingshighway"

edit

I don't know about Sikeston and Cape, but, in the St. Louis area, Hwy. 61 is mostly coincidental with Lindbergh Blvd. Other parts of it follow Hwy 64/40 and Lemay Ferry Rd. Kingshighway is an entirely separate street in the City of St. Louis, which 61 never enters. I've lived in St. Louis Co. my entire life, and I've never heard anyone call any part of Hwy. 61 "Kingshighway". -TSN 06:43, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

What? No mention of Bob Dylan's song? Highway 61? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.120.98.69 (talk) 17:05, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The song and album have their own article. Your comment may predate that article.205.197.242.169 (talk) 05:03, 27 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Swaggart

edit

There seems to be some confusion over the exact name of the Motel where he got caught. It definitely was not the Sugar Bowl Courts. Contemporaneous sources say Texas Motel. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.252.73.159 (talk) 16:29, 7 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
