Talk:Timeline of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (12 November 2022 – 7 June 2023)

Is it still a “Stalemate”? edit

Since January Russia has captured Soledar & the towns and villages around Bakhmut (excluding Chasiv Yar) Russia has almost captured the whole raion (county) of Bakhmut. This is hardly a stalemate, I think it’s time for an additional bulletin. 2605:B100:1135:14F8:6DCD:534C:603F:9AEE (talk) 18:14, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

The Flanks of Bakhmut are still under Ukraine they are still moving slowly. With regards to the action in Belgorod it might not be a stalemate much longer but for now it is. I sell eggs (talk) 14:52, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Compared to the rapid Ukrainian advance in the previous phase, the fact that we're considering changes on the level of individual towns/villages shows that it's definitely slower than before. Chaotic Enby (talk) 17:30, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wagner loss are on Bakhmut and half of it is from convicts edit

Hi, The source on may 24 about Wagner's lost said the 20 000 casualties were on the Bakhmut battle and that 20% of the 50 000 convicts recruted (so 10 000) were lost too, meaning half of the 20 000 casualties are recruted convicts. Those two precisions (On Bakhmut and half of that is recruted convicts) seems worth mentioning.

(Feel free to detail that in a neutral close to the source way, I'm not really good at that) 178.23.152.132 (talk) 14:23, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Worth pointing that ISW has the same conclusion on its 24th of may assessment, should you need a source.

25 May 2023 edit

A series of fires have broken out in Moscow to the consternation of the public.

The leader of the Wagner Group admits that Bakhmut was a failure and warns that Putin risks an uprising similar to the 1917 Revolution when the military sided with the people. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.244.210.117 (talk) 06:21, 25 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Al Jazeera liveblog links edit

Please compare this news article "permanent link" and this "liveblog" one. The latter appears to be a short summary of various recent news that quickly expires. I've seen the use of these as sources in this article lately and recommend to avoid them, versus direct article links. Thanks, —PaleoNeonate – 08:09, 26 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Note: I still see more of these expiring links being used recently. A compromise may also be to use archive.org timed archives, that may allow to prevent early link rot... See |archive-url=, |archive-date= and |url-status= of the {{cite news}} template. Without this, an editor may eventually cleanup and remove what citation links don't directly support. —PaleoNeonate – 15:08, 8 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ivan Maslov edit

It redirects to a Ivan Maslov who died in 2011 80.208.69.53 (talk) 19:15, 26 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

+1 this, the second to last paragraph under the May 26 heading links to Ivan Maslov, a deceased soviet flying ace. If someone with perms could remove the link, that'd be great. 9yz (talk) 08:16, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Done. Thanks, Prolog (talk) 11:43, 28 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 6 June 2023 edit

to June 6 add:

"There has been speculation for several months that the emptying of the basin will have severe negative consequences to drinking water, agriculture and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, as water was draining from the basin before the dam blew up[1]. Bart Terpstra (talk) 09:55, 6 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not done: This isn't important enough to go in a Timeline article. I would suggest adding it to Destruction of the Kakhovka Dam, but it's already mentioned there. ARandomName123 (talk) 16:45, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Split of the timeline edit

With the Ukrainian counteroffensive starting and the article reaching an unwieldy length, I feel it is more than time to split the timeline into a new page. Chaotic Enby (talk) 14:58, 8 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Support The Washington post article above lists numerous Ukrainian and Russian officials saying the counter offensive has begun, so I think it seems warranted to split the article as of at least June 8.
