Essex or Wessex or Hampshire

edit

Whoever it is that changed Wessex back to Essex needs to rewatch episode one. Lord Wingrave clearly says 'Wessex' — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.150.254.45 (talk) 20:51, 17 October 2020 (UTC) Also note in Edisode 6 Wingrave states "Bly is a three hour drive" Essex is the next county to London, a three drive would take you way out of Essex.Reply

According to episode 8, Bly is actually located in Hampshire, although James' originally set it in Essex.

Series/season status

edit

No source confirms that it is a completely separate series or sequel series, but a multitude of sources do refer to THoBM as the second season of THoHH (thus, in the same format as American Horror Story, an anthology series that have separated storylines that are still considered seasons). Thus, I have converted the article to represent the sources accordingly, rather than the WP:OR status of it being a separate series. If you disagree, please discuss on the talk page and present sources. -- /Alex/21 15:25, 28 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Article name

edit

Something to note with the title of this show is that Bly Manor is a completely different story consisting of different characters to Hill House (yes I'm aware that this an anthology series). Naming this 'Season 2' of 'The Haunting of Hill House' doesn't make much sense as it's not a continuation of Hill House at all. It's why its titled differently. One suggestion could be to rename both current articles The Haunting of Hill House (TV series) and The Haunting of Hill House (season 2) to The Haunting (season 1) and The Haunting (season 2) respectively, as specified by trailers ("The Haunting continues") and social media platforms for the series. However, this change would not be supported by many sources. Another option could be to revert it to how it was beforehand. To sum it all up, Bly Manor isn't a continuation of Hill House, and the 'season 2' title isn't justified. Happy to discuss this further. Looking forward to hearing other opinions on this. Thanks. It should just be moved back to The Haunting of Bly Manor as that what it is officially called. The current naming doesn't make sense. This is in line with other anthology shows that have separate titles like American Horror Story: Asylum and The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Drovethrughosts (talk) 11:58, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
For now it should be The Haunting of Bly Manor. That's what its called in sources and is the clearest identifier. I don't know if this will be considered a 2nd "season" or a separate series under an umbrella franchise - but in both cases the COMMONNAME is The Haunting of Bly Manor. -- Netoholic @ 13:18, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: page moved. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:42, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

The Haunting of Hill House (season 2)The Haunting of Bly Manor – The Haunting of Bly Manor is what it is known as in sources and is the official title. The series is not a continuation of Hill House. KaitoNkmra23 (talk) 13:33, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Request speedy close. The page was moved, apparently without discussion, on June 2nd from the long-term title it held since Nov 2019, so technically that should have been reverted without the need for this RM. The RfC mentioned above will be going for some time, and so far none of the respondents there have endorsed any title other than The Haunting of Bly Manor. If any change comes out of the RfC, we can revisit this at that time. -- Netoholic @ 10:28, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Format

I've updated the article to look more like The Haunting of Hill House's article, since there was disagreement on having them as separate seasons, but rather series.

For those interested, Amblin's website states The Haunting of Bly Manor—based on Henry James' classic shocker, The Turn of the Screw—the second chapter in The Haunting series, is currently in production. -- /Alex/21 06:18, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Alex 21: Would this support the creation of a parent article titled The Haunting (TV series) from the discussion at Talk:The Haunting of Hill House (TV series)#RFC? KaitoNkmra23 talk 12:09, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
KaitoNkmra23, the RFC was never closed and doesn't have a consensus at the moment, but I don't see why not; look at Criminal (TV series) and its related articles. -- /Alex/21 13:37, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
[1] The next chapter of The Haunting anthology series -- /Alex/21 13:17, 31 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Alex 21: I think at this point, resuming the RFC discussions at Talk:The Haunting of Hill House (TV series)#RFC, as I also have seen multiple sources pointing to Bly Manor as the next chapter in The Haunting series. KaitoNkmra23 talk 11:08, 1 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Episodes 7-9

edit

I’m just wondering and want to ask why episodes 7-9 aren’t included in the episodes table? It appears to be causing some confusion .

@flanaganfilm (September 14, 2020). "A few people reached out today for some clarification on BLY MANOR, figured I'd just post it - it's nine episodes. Some websites incorrectly have it at six, not sure why, but it's nine" (Tweet) – via Twitter. KaitoNkmra23 talk 06:20, 19 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you look at this version, all titles were listed by WGA, but then WGA updated their sites to list Episode 20# written by X, and thus we were able to match title to writer. The last archived version of the WGA source only includes the first six of the titles, not all nine, so episodes 7 to 9 don't have sourceable titles according to the archived source used. We have listed nothing incorrectly; right below the table clearly states that there are nine episodes. -- /Alex/21 06:47, 19 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Joyce Carol Oates

edit

The screen play is a direct adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates' short story "The Accursed Inhabitants of the House of Bly" and only marginally related to "The Turn of the Screw"

You can find the full story here: [2]https://web.english.upenn.edu/~nauerbac/bly.html]

Should she not be credited? 166.70.247.6 (talk) 14:02, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

She is not mentioned anywhere in the credits for this series. The based on credit simply states "Based on the work of Henry James". "The Accursed Inhabitants of House Bly" is another adaptation/expansion/version/etc. of The Turn of the Screw, just like Bly Manor is. Drovethrughosts (talk) 14:11, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
