Not GM of Yankees in 1989

edit

The general manager of the Yankees in 1989 was Bob Quinn. Thrift was Senior Vice President. This is verifiable via the New York Times historical archives. Neither was he was ever GM of the Orioles, though he effectively filled that function between 1999 and 2002. Hence my use of de facto; it wasn't his job title and the article shouldn't make it seem as though it was. Dppowell 20:03, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, technically many GMs in recent years haven't had that precise job title; most are officially senior VPs, or VPs of baseball operations, or something similar, so I don't think using de facto is really necessary since the phrase would end up being used all the time. Whether or not they have that specific title, they are recognized as being the GM. And Thrift was only with the Yankees for part of 1989, anyway, so it's possible that both he and Quinn handled the GM responsibilities at some point in the year. Looking to change the article title

edit

Does anyone know how to change the title of this article to Syd's full name (with "Syd" included)? -Karl

Believe it or not, the article is actually properly named according to Wikipedia's naming conventions guideline (WP:NCP). When someone is most widely known by a nickname, it is preferable that the article title reflect that nickname. The bold title in the body of the article itself is allowed to vary and is where the full name should go. Erechtheus 02:43, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Stub?

edit

Is this article still a stub? Dppowell 14:30, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think so. Then again, I would suggest that an article is a stub until it becomes a recognized Good Article. Others may disagree, and I'm happy to go along with consensus if somebody wants to remove the stub. Erechtheus 18:37, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Korean War service

edit

Although Thrift served in the army during the Korean War era, there are no reliable sources found as of yet that state he was in a war zone during the war or had a role in the war. More specifically, the sources do not establish defining role in the Korean War. Accordingly, "Category:United States Army personnel of the Korean War" is removed until a defining role is established. Semper Fi! FieldMarine (talk) 19:42, 13 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
