Talk:South African Wars (1879–1915)

Untitled

edit

This is going to be a longer article summarizing the wars in southern Africa from the Anglo-Zulu war in 1879 to the last Boer rebellion in 1914 (as well as the fight between Britain and Germany over Walvis Bay in 1914-15)

It is underconstruction but will be up within two weeks.

It is based on the temporal framework of Martin Meredith, "Diamonds, Gold and War," (New York: Public Affairs, 2007), which does not limit South African Wars to the two Boer Wars but looks at the formation of southern Africa generally (not a consolidated colony until 1910). It includes both regions that get left out and included and considers not only wars between colonists of European descent (i.e. the English vs. the Boers).

Full citations of all material will be in place with the finished site.

Links and additions are of course welcome.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Rbatchelor40 (talkcontribs) 14:11, 11 September 2008

Article content in dispute

edit

This article is far too long - extensive sections of it have nothing to do with the title and are therefore irrelevant. The article also does not show how the wars - which already have their own articles anyway- are connected to one another. I am not sure that they all are. Usually only the two "Boer" wars are connected.--79.78.228.207 (talk) 19:53, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree, I cannot see a theme or a thread here. It is dangerously like a random collection of facts about South Africa and also some of its neighbouring countries as well - and that not even restricted to the time period in the title. In particular, the Pioneer Column section is seriously flawed as it was not a war (and not normally considered an invasion either) and the opinions expressed in it are not supported by most researchers so I am raising a neutrality issue here.--Mountwolseley (talk) 16:22, 22 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV

edit

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 00:39, 22 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
