aboriginal population in electoral area figures??

edit

This is a case example of why RDs should not be used as if geographic region pages; and how jumbled population figures and the jumbled political geography of BC are not easily editable/understood by those unfamiliar with the technicalities; residents of Lax Kwa'laams, Skidegate and Old Massett do not and cannot (and don't want to) vote in regional district elections/ and StatCan figures deliberately do not confuse the two issues; so checking the citation I find that the Community Profile cited is Burnaby's, which isn't very helpful. Whether the totals given are the non-IR populations for those EAs I can't tell, but it's unlikely. Adding things together that StatCan itself doesn't add together and keeps separate is SYNTH/ORIGINAL RESEARCH and , as with the visible minorities table combining figure wantonly, winds up drawing wrong conclusions. This page, among so many with similar problems, needs a major refit; and fresh citations.Skookum1 (talk) 09:03, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Remove the table. Definitely SYNTH. Hwy43 (talk) 10:23, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Just did so; really there are dozens of articles that needs doing for, because of the problem as explained and also the also-SYNTH use of "white"......but the EA figures seem to be SYNTH too...I'll figure that out once I update the Community Profile from Burnaby to the SQCRD.Skookum1 (talk) 12:55, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
The RD's own community profile at StatCan doesn't break the RD down by electoral area - and I'm not having any luck finding the equivalent profiles for Skidegate and Old Massett and Lax Kwalaams etc (which have to be searched at StatCan by their IR names, but I'm still not having luck finding them, though I did find a CSV download for Skidegate here, for 2006 anyway. I'm of the opinion - guessing only at this point - that the 7,700 native residents in the SCQRD communityy profile are not on any of the reserves but in EAs and municipalities....and that the information as currently presented is SYNTH. Technically Skidegate et al. are not "in" the regional district, no more than Monaco is "in" France....Skookum1 (talk) 13:14, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
