Talk:List of longest-serving G7 leaders

Returns to government edit

Have the rules changed recently to make it the total time served in office rather than the current period? I can't otherwise see why Berlusconi's earlier periods means he overtakes Merkel, Harper, Sarkozy, Brown and Medvedev, yet in earlier years Trudeau didn't regain the position in 1980-1984. Probably because it's an unofficial title and there are actually no rules. Whoever has done the most recent editing has decided to count Berlusconi's entire time in office; whoever put together the original list didn't include Trudeau's entire time in office after 1980. So it's totally arbitrary. If the article is going to stay it should be corrected for the sake of consistency. Either add Trudeau as senior leader from March 4, 1980 - June30, 1984 or name Merkel as senior leader now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sddavis63 (talkcontribs) 03:38, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bush Holder For One Day Only Due To Berlusconi? edit

So... I was looking over the list, and saw what appears to be an error to my eyes. Berlusconi should be the eldest anytime he was active PM of Italy, owing to his 1994 start date, correct?

So then I see his third stint as PM starting on May 8th, 2008 - going until Nov. 16th, 2011. Bush, obviously, was not POTUS until January 2001. So how is it that, with Berlusconi as PM on May 8th 2008, George W. Bush holds the longest serving G7/8 head of state from May 7th, 2008, up until he left office on January 20th, 2009?

The way I see it, George W. Bush was the longest serving G7/8 head of state on... May 7th, 2008. Period - that's it. Because the very next day, Berlusconi resumes as Italian PM.

I feel like I'm really, really missing some aspect here, which is why I didn't edit/change anything, myself. It seems impossible such an error could have been made, especially when Berlusconi assumed the title from Bush on January 20th, 2009.

If I am right on this, someone please feel free to edit and correct the (potential) error on this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Coladar (talkcontribs) 20:08, 10 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
