The same person edit

Based solely on the dates in Leigh Rayment's peerage pages, it appears that Samuel Martin the Privy Counsellor was the same person as the Pontefract MP.

http://www.leighrayment.com/commons/Pcommons2.htm : Samuel Martin (died 9 Jan 1883) MP for Pontefract 1847–1851

http://www.leighrayment.com/pcouncil/pcouncil2.htm : Sir Samuel Martin (1801 – 9 Jan 1883) appointed a Privy Counsellor on 2 Feb 1874

I take the coincidence of dates of death as high odds that they were the same person, but I can't be sure. In particular, it seems odd that a former MP should be appointed a Privy Counsellor more than 20 years after leaving Parliament, unless he had held some other office, such as a colonial governorship. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:50, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Resolved. He served as a judge from 1850 to 1873. Choess (talk) 16:36, 4 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
