Someone put 'followed by X-Men (2000)' in the series info. LOL

Rename

edit

This article name is long beyond the point of usefulness. The common names guideline says to "use the most common name of a person or thing that does not conflict with the names of other people or things." Along with that, staying simple will make organization easier when we get Sailor Moon R movie and Sailor Moon S movie up and running. For all these reasons, I propose that we move this article to Sailor Moon SuperS movie.

If no one objects, I'd like to make this change in two days, on the 31st. --Masamage 00:41, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Okay then, I'm gonna go ahead! --Masamage 16:27, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'd just like to make the comment that inside the DVD covers from Japan, it has written in English "Sailormoon SuperS - The Miracle of the Black Dream Hole". I thought it wouldn't hurt to mention it, since it's an official Toei title. It seems like they didn't add the first part of the title though, for whatever reason. ~ Fighter4luv (talk) 01:35, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Name consistency

edit

We need to pick one of these name styles and stick with it:

Japanese: Badiyanu, Peruru, Pupuran, Oranja, Bananu.
French: Badian, Perle, Poupelin, Orangeat, Banane.

I'm personally (on gut-instict) in favor of the former. 'Marzipan Castle' is a separate issue, but also needs to be decided on--Marzipan, Marzipane, or Marujipannu. I vote Marzipan. --Masamage 00:41, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

No votes on this? --Masamage 18:19, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Japanese version, because the English dub also uses those names. Danny Lilithborne 05:40, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Do you think maybe a compromise would work? I was thinking something like, "Poupelin (pronounced Pupuran)..." --Masamage 08:59, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
You're in favor of the Japanese one, right? No compromise necessary. Danny Lilithborne 10:31, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
There is no "Japanese version" ... I think Naoko Takeuchi was abundantly clear what names she meant in the Materials Collection -- they're mostly French cooking/food terms and to dis-acknowledge that would be preposterous. So, in keeping with the "Tessagia/Tetsuaiga" precedent the MOS-JA, we really should give weight to the author's intentions over a mistranslation and integrate the two romanizations with MOS-JA style.
i.e. {{nihongo|Perle|ペルル|Peruru}} = Perle (ペルル, Peruru)
(I also corrected the spelling of Badian) --Kunzite 12:40, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
That's sorta what my guilty conscience was thinking. Sounds okay to me; I'll make it happen.
PS. Done. I used the spelling 'Badiane' because that's what I found in French dictionaries. --Masamage 17:32, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
French Cooking terms? These should be cited directly from Wikipedia itself, or from a french cooking site (cut out the middle man). Though what Takeuchi "meant" to use French cooking terms should be noted as speculation since it's not directly stated. --Hitsuji Kinno 15:43, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Has anyone read Ian Miller's article about the SuperS movie? He explains how the katakana マジパンヌ (Majipannu) does not approximate the English word "Marzipan" nor the French Massepain. The castle was not created by Naoko, so do you think we should spell it "Marzipannu", as with other terms in Sailor Moon that use parts of an English word. ~ Fighter4luv (talk) 14:16, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
What if I'm ferociously suspicious of Ian Miller? ^_^;;; With the "nu" in the katakana, though, it might be Marzipane. I wonder where he's getting those kana. --Masamage 17:55, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ian has helped me for years with Sailor Moon translation issues, and I trust his trained judgment. I even went through Marzipan of heaps of languages to see if the Japanese write any of them as majipannu, but no luck... and usually, in my experience, if the Japanese change an English word (add extra stuff) it's written with that extra Japanese syllable. *shrugs* I'm just saying "marzipan" has never been written as "majipannu" in katakana. I guess we may never know their intention though :P ~ Fighter4luv (talk) 12:26, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Where did he get the kana in the first place, though? It's not in the Materials Collection. Is it in a memorial book or something? --Masamage 23:40, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
It's featured in the Memorial Album. ~ Fighter4luv (talk) 04:26, 13 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Automated Peer Review

edit

The following suggestions were generated by a semi-automatic javascript program, and might not be applicable for the article in question.

  • Consider adding more links to the article; per WP:MOS-L and WP:BTW, create links to relevant articles.
  • Per WP:CONTEXT and WP:BTW, years with full dates should be linked; for example, link January 15, 2006, but do not link January 2006.
  • Watch for redundancies that make the article too wordy instead of being crisp and concise. (You may wish to try Tony1's redundancy exercises.)
    • Vague terms of size often are unnecessary and redundant - “some”, “a variety/number/majority of”, “several”, “a few”, “many”, “any”, and “all”. For example, “All pigs are pink, so we thought of a number of ways to turn them green.”
  • Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 1a.

Production

edit

that section seems kinda dubious... 1st off... Why would Uranus need to steal them, She, Neputne and Pluto have them... not the other senshi. 2: She would just ask if she needed them, I'm sure the other senshi would have given her them if they had them. I just don't buy that that was the orignal plan...Lego3400: The Sage of Time 16:46, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unico...

edit

I watched the Unico movies and another movie recently that came before this production and some of the shots, shot for shot, and opening seem like it's a tribute... I mean *eerily* similar down to camera angle and colors used. The opening scene where the song starts looks a lot like the scene in the movie... but I wondering if this is too much speculation and OR even if the shots look pretty much the same... If you have a crunchyroll account you can see for yourself.--Hitsuji Kinno 17:15, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

What looks like a tribute to which? --Masamage 18:16, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sailor Moon took from these anime: Unico (the design of Pegasus in large form and even some of the frames look a lot like the ones in Unico. The original was by Tezuka--so it's impossible that the animators wouldn't have noticed. 1. Detachable horn. 2. Growing larger Unico grows wings like a Pegasus (the design looks very, very similar). http://www.crunchyroll.com/showmedia?id=18005 (it's about half way there) 3. Unico's horn glows gold when Unico uses it and is the source of unico's power (Sound suspiciously familiar? The anime does this while the manga does not... and there is a good reason for this...)
Unico in the Island of Magic has the strongest influence on this movie. Quarter of the way through you see a piper on a pipe enchanting things and having magical powers over the animals... He turns them into puppets. People are collected too. What's funny is that in the movie they travel to the end of the Earth, much like Ikuhara originally wanted and learn how to defeat the enemy there. The opening shot of Sailor Moon particularly has an eerie similarity to the one in the second part a bit of the way in where the "living dolls" come alive... shot over the roof top, the up angle, etc when I saw it I was like.. that's SM Supers' Movie opening shot. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showmedia?id=27674
The end of the movie you can see pretty much shot for shot the end of SuperS series. Only replace the bad guy with Nehelenia... and Unico also converts the main character by saying that the enemy has friends... "I feel sorry for you" "I'm sorry you're full of such hate." "I know how important friends are." "You must be must be lonely" Even the design of the main character--the puppet looks similar to Zirconia... O.o;; (Didn't one of the SuperS specials also have a puppet controlling the user in it? Well this has the puppet deceiving a boy too...)
In addition if you watch Unico: Black Rain and White Feather about half way through you can see pretty much shot for shot the episode where Chibiusa flies on Pegasus... I'm serious... first running through a forest, launching off, and even the sound. The clouds part to reveal the various heavenly bodies... About halfway through you can hear a *very* *very* similar sound that was used in SM... about the time Chibiusa got her wings.... a similar sound showed up. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showmedia?id=27819 (Worth watching)
It's not rare for animators to pay tribute and use other animations for reference. (As an animator friend said to me and quoted in the Kimba v. Simba debate by Schodt.) But the similarities between the two make me strongly thing that this series, Unico, by Tezuka had a strong influence on Ikuhara in the creation of the SuperS series and even the movie. (I also heard that shots were taken from the Hamlin series...) Oh Unico came way before Sailor Moon and is probably the best known series to have a Pegasus in it... I do wonder if this is too much OR... but I swear even the building tops look the same in the Island of magic one in the sequence that I mention.--Hitsuji Kinno 02:51, 24 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Controversial move

edit

I have reverted the move to "Sailor Moon Supers movie" because there was no discussion. Please join in at Talk:Sailor Moon SuperS so we can keep this in one place. Thanks! --Masamage 17:51, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

It was moved because the current name violates MOSTM. As soon as that other page gets moved (and it WILL be), this one will get moved too. TJ Spyke 00:25, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, of course. But please discuss it over there, not here. --Masamage 02:33, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
What is with these films anyway? Ideally, articles about originally non-English films should be named after the official English title, which (according to the article's current lead) would call for a move to Sailor Moon Supers the Movie: Black Dream Hole. – Cyrus XIII (talk) 21:50, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
These movies were released in officially-subtitled form by Pioneer before they were ever dubbed, and were titled the way these articles are now. (At least, my copy of the SuperS movie on VHS is labelled that way, and I'm pretty sure the S one I used to own was, too.) --Masamage 22:40, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I see, that makes sense. Then the articles should probably point out this discrepancy between the different the English-territory-releases more clearly, to avoid confusion. – Cyrus XIII (talk) 23:12, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
They definitiely should. I'm not sure about the details of that part of the production history, is all; just the general idea I just gave. Anyone know more? Dates, reason it wasn't licensed for dubbing at that time, etc? --Masamage 02:49, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Poster confusion

edit

I just noticed this, but, uh...why does this "movie" poster say "memorial album" at the bottom? --Masamage 20:52, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Because someone used the cover from the anime book lol. ~ Fighter4luv (talk) 01:31, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Debatable Release date

edit

I say we should go by the release of it on Cartoon Network as the release date is very debatable. Amazon.com says 2000, where as the VHS says 1999. I do not believe that the VHS were released until after they aired on Cartoon Network because of this seeing as there is no actually founding proof as to when they were. In case anyone is wondering how I know this I own all 3 movies on VHS and only one says 2000 and that's Sailor Moon S: The Movie.

Here's the copyrights as seen on the back of all three:

  • Sailor Moon R: The Movie

© MCMXCV TOEI ANIMATION CO. LTD ©1999 NAOKO TAKEUCHI/KODANSHA TOEI ANIMATION For sale or rental in the United States and Canada. Artwork & Design ©1999 Pioneer Entertainment (USA) LP All rights reserved. Manufactured for and distributed by Pioneer Entertainment (USA) LP

  • Sailor Moon S: The Movie

  • Sailor Moon SuperS: The Movie

Notice SuperS has 2 different ones...as I pointed out debatable and we should probably just use the Cartoon Network airdates instead of claiming the VHS's came out in 2000 when it is really unknown. JamesAlan1986 (talk-Contributes) 11:28, 19 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Page discussion

edit

This is really getting out of hand. The official translated title is "Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon Super S". An IP has done a cut-and-paste translation, which is already a mess. Even Viz's official translations refer to it as just "Super S". Also, in the advertisements, there are no ":" when mentioning titles except for separate ones. However, to avoid an edit war, I want to discuss this matter on the talk page. Thoughts? Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 21:26, 6 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Excuse me? But you got this all wrong. You said you were putting a move request to have the page changed to Sailor Moon SuperS: The Movie which it is as all postings on the page have the SuperS together not apart as the title of the page does which has it as Sailor Moon Super S: The Movie, so I see no reason why the page should not have been moved to reflect what is shown on the page. I think someone likes to cause problems. 184.16.64.8 (talk) 00:01, 7 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Also the ":" and the capitalized T I was talking about was for the English dub title which was posted as Sailor Moon SuperS the Movie: Black Dream Hole when it should have been Sailor Moon SuperS: The Movie: Black Dream Hole like the rest of the titles on the page do. Get your facts straight dude. 184.16.64.8 (talk) 00:12, 7 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Final add on, if anyone would care to go to the official Japanese website the entire series, including the TV series and movies have been put under the title Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, yes its official and original translation was Pretty Soldier and I do not deny that but that does not change the fact that they are currently being advertised as Pretty Guardian, Sjones23. 184.16.64.8 (talk) 00:25, 7 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Looking at all of the English language sources in the article, they consistently use "Super S" instead of "SuperS". This includes the interview with director Kunihiko Ikuhara where he uses the term "Super S".[1] Following WP:COMMONNAME, "Super S" should be the variant used. —Farix (t | c) 00:57, 7 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
You can't base on one source and call it common most fans base the name on the advertised logos which when you look at both the US and Japanese logos they have it as "SuperS" not "Super S" so if you want to get technically both are common names so which do you go by? The official logo or how people put it? 184.16.64.8 (talk) 17:54, 7 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Note if you look at the page on Sailor Moon Wiki they base it on the logo instead of how people put it. Shouldn't Wikipedia? Isn't that how an encyclopedia is suppose to work? 184.16.64.8 (talk) 17:57, 7 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
