Before and after

edit

[1] seems to have a picture of the ship being swept out to sea by the tsunami, and the derelict off the coast of Canada. The same picture is also plastered over Japanese language blogs. 70.24.244.198 (talk) 06:15, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

The side by side images are two different ships. The superstructure on the ship on the right is much farther forward than the one on Ryō Un Maru. —Diiscool (talk) 13:20, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ryō Un MaruRyou-Un Maru – The commonly used name for the ship is "Ryou-Un Maru", which contains a hyphen and a different romanization. See Google News . Even this Japanese language article uses "Ryou-Un Maru" [2] 70.24.244.198 (talk) 04:52, 6 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Any additional comments:

I based the article name on the recommendations in the Wikipedia MOS but I am more than happy to have the article moved if it would help people to find it. My Japanese language skills are nonexistent. —Diiscool (talk) 14:48, 6 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

location

edit

It would be nice if we cold add a coord template for the location of the wreck or the sinking. 70.24.244.198 (talk) 05:03, 6 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Hopefully that information will come out in a CG report or similar. —Diiscool (talk) 14:36, 6 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I have added the coordinates as they were broadcast by the Coast Guard in this video: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ryou-Un_Maru_sinking_off_Alaska_2012.ogv. —Diiscool (talk) 13:21, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Edited photo caption

I have edited the caption of the second photo to reflect that it was taken post-shelling. Many large holes are clearly visible in the photo that are not present in the first photo, which shows the same side of the ship. In the second photo, the coast guard is hosing the Maru with water, either to put out what appears to be a fire (judging by the smoke) or perhaps to encourage the vessel to flood and sink. 172.250.202.110 (talk) 18:42, 17 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
