editI found information that Switzerland plans national referendum on same sex Civil Unions, in summer 2005. In late 2003 public opinion showed great support for full Civil Marriage for same sex coupels. 65% of tham agreed, and only 31% disagreed with that issue. Now after adoption of law on Civil Unions in June 2004, started "YES" campagne for support Civil unions in referendum. (small Christian Democratic Party has assembled 50 000 signatures needed to make national referendum on the issue!)
Nationwide civil unions
editThe canton level laws appear to provide/allow "registered partnership"/civil unions between opposite sex couples (as well as same sex couples). Do the nationwide laws also allow partnerships between opposite sex couples or only same sex couples? Nil Einne 19:51, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- No, heterosexual couples only have the option of marriage as a matter of federal law. Cantonal laws cannot actually provide for civil unions, as civil law is an exclusive matter of federal law, but such registrations can provide some benefits in dealing with cantonal authorities, such as hospital visitation rights, etc. Sandstein 21:32, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Recognition of Registered Partnerships in the U.S.
editDoes anyone know if RPs are recognized by the US government as a same-sex marriage? (About to get into an RP with my Swiss boyfriend...) I'm curious and it also seems like it would be a useful addition to this article. Thank you. --Pnoeric (talk) 22:06, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Total number of Registered Partnerships in 2007 is 2003 of same-sex couples - http://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/portal/en/index/themen/01/02/blank/key/natuerliche_bevoelkerungsbewegung/01.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.12.171.218 (talk) 21:32, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Opposite-sex couples
editThe subsection about opposite sex couples is misleading. What national level is should be clarified. In fact registered partnership is not recognized at the federal level for opposite sex couples and I am not sure if and which cantons are recognizing it.

Registered partnership in Switzerland → Recognition of same-sex unions in Switzerland – First of all for consistency with other relating articles. Also because of the fact that this article does not only talk about the registered partnerships in Switzerland but also includes a section on same-sex marriage, so the new title would be more appropriate. 2607:FEA8:559F:FA30:3453:806E:BFD1:1121 (talk) 20:35, 10 December 2017 (UTC)
- Support, for consistency. Isseubnida (talk) 16:36, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- Support, due to section on same-sex marriage legislation Andrew1444 (talk) 17:16, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

Adoption by single people
editBeing swiss, I am pretty sure it's illegal for single people to adopt children. You have to be married for 10 or 15 years (not sure for the number of years) to gain the right to adopt children. Stepchild adoption is faster. Givibidou (talk) 19:00, 21 July 2018 (UTC)
- After verification, the law has been changed this year, shit. I said nothing. Givibidou (talk) 19:05, 21 July 2018 (UTC)
- Adoption for single person has been allowed in Switzerland even prior to the change that solely concerned LGBT couples.Ngagnebin (talk) 19:23, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
100 days to SSM unless referendum
editSuppression
editReally annoying to see over −14'773 removed without opening a discussion prior doing so and to legitimize the move only with «I have the feeling it's too long». Not a great way of collaboration at all.Ngagnebin (talk) 19:21, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
Catholicism
editShould this information regarding Catholic priests extending blessings to same-sex couples in Switzerland be included?
'The Catholic News Agency reported churches in about 80 German cities — and in Zurich, Switzerland — had already conducted the blessings, which were open to all couples. The ceremonies, known as ‘Segnungsgottesdienste für Liebende,’ or ‘blessing services for lovers,’ were promoted using the hashtag ‘#liebegewinnt’ (‘love wins’). Organizers said that the services were open to all couples, including — and in particular — those of the same sex,” reported CNA.
“In many places, a general blessing was given at the end of the service, which, however, explicitly included homosexual couples and their relationships. Sometimes individual blessings were offered after the ceremony,” according to the news agency'
