I feel this is as important as, for example, Robert_Farquharson. It is a murder investigation spanning three countries containing bizarre circumstances that have captured Australia's attention (ref. http://www.theage.com.au/news/opinion/how-to-talk-to-children-about-pumpkin/2007/09/18/1189881511214.html "Water coolers in offices around the nation are abuzz with people talking about the mystery surrounding this little girl and the ongoing search for her Auckland-based mother, Annie Xue."). It involves the abandonment of a 3 year old child, something very rare and sad in Australian culture. Bramley 10:28, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

It should probably be in Wikinews for the time being and moved back to wikipedia once the case is more resolved. dramatic 05:36, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Probably time subheadings were introduced.

Note on pinyin names

edit

It should be spelt Qianxun Xue according to ordinary rules of pinyin spelling - though all the papers seem to be doing the three separate words thing. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 13:16, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

In real Hanyu Pinyin, it should be Xue Qianxun, and have tone marks too. We should also have the Han characters for the name. We seem to lack all this information. — Chameleon 13:02, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deletion discussion

edit

Why should this be deleted? The "Maddie" case is not being consided for deletion, and this is still a current news item. Wallie 07:05, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

photos

edit

I uploaded some cc-by-sa photos on this case. One is in the article now. Since I'm not a very good English writer I left the other two below. Please feel free to use them if needed. --NinjaBear 03:09, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Use of the Qian Xun Xue name

edit

I don't know if or how this affects Wikipedia, but because she was the subject of Family Court proceedings (in order to award custody to her grandmother), she can no longer be named by the press in New Zealand. [2] Thayvian 03:48, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rename to Nai Yin Xue case?

edit

I think it is less and less appropriate for this article to be named after the child. If no one objects, I will move it to "Nai Yin Xue case" (i.e. name it after the father/alleged murderer) in a few days. -- Avenue (talk) 16:50, 28 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, the notability of the case relates to the child being found alone at Spencer Street Station and the subsequent fracas. Rebecca (talk) 00:20, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I agree the case would have received less attention, and have been less notable, if Mr Xue had not left his daughter there. But there is also a murder case here, which seems at least as serious as the abandonment, with an upcoming trial that should generate further interest. Naming our article for the child does not reflect this aspect of the story.
Discomfort with the article's name was also widely expressed in the earlier AfD discussion about this article. Another name suggested there was "Xue family murder and abandonment". This would also be an improvement over the current name.
And, while Wikipedia isn't censored, New Zealand law constrains what can be said about the child, at least by New Zealand editors. (See the directions to media of Judge P F Boshier and the related Family Court decision for details.) IANAL, but I think that incorporating the child's full name within the title of our article may make it more difficult for us to comply with the law. -- Avenue (talk) 07:41, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
The notability doesn't stem from the murder case; it comes from the huge fracas surrounding the child. A rename to the mother's name just doesn't make any sense. The legal issue, on the other hand, is a fair point (and a potential BLP issue, too); on those grounds, I wouldn't object to the second name. Rebecca (talk) 07:47, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I also support a move to Xue family murder and abandonment Thayvian (talk) 02:17, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I agree with the above arguments and have enacted the move (making a right-royal balls-up of it in the process by moving the talk page instead of the article). dramatic (talk) 04:07, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Misinformation clarified

edit

I was an eyewitness of the abandonment of this small child. The location was Parliament Station, on the Melbourne Underground Rail Loop. This was not Southern Cross Station. The little girl wore a puff pink parka. Her father was acting strangely, I thought he might push her off the platform until he saw me, so I kept watching and took pictures on my mobile phone.

Hours later when I returned the little girl was still standing there on the platform close to the edge, not boarding. So I told a Station attendant and called authorities. When it became public that the man had abandoned this child, and was wanted in regard to the death of his partner, I uploaded my mobile phone pictures to a Chinese site actively requesting any contribution on the matter (I am anglo-Australian and only speak/read/write English).

The wanted man was caught within hours of this. Santy Clause (talk) 02:49, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
