Comment on some recent edits

edit

@Anthony Appleyard: I have a question about some of the recent edits to this article. As far as I know, no reliable source has stated that Putana was the source of the 1808–1809 mystery eruption, so I wouldn't say that this volcano played any role. It is also implausible because while Putana is remote, it isn't that remote and large eruptions at Huaynaputina in 1600 and Lascar in 1993 were conspicuous even at distances. If the 1808-1809 eruption of Putana was this large, it would probably have been seen and would have also left a caldera. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 08:13, 12 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I also don't think it's good writing to have four one-sentence paragraphs. Since they are all about recent eruptions, I'd put them into the same paragraph. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 08:13, 12 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've put the text back into two paragraphs and removed the mention of the 1808-1809 eruption. Also, I don't think that we should rely on links to other Wikipedia articles as sources per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Self-references to avoid and Wikipedia:Verifiability#Wikipedia and sources that mirror or use it. Suggestions on some possible edits

edit

Putana volcano should say that it is a stratovolcano and it is located in the Andean Central Volcanic Zone (CVZ) at the beginning. Also, it is always good to have a distance reference from any nearby town (like San Pedro, Machuca, or even "El Tatio") for reference. Fumaroles should say four "fumarolic" fields. 1952 citing of 30 fumaroles, there could just be a mention saying "Historically, there have been several reports of fumarolic activity since late XIX century, early XX century and on (Rudolph, 1952 & Casertano, 1963[1]). Just because there is no other reference saying there are so many fumaroles in Putana but has been active since the 1800s. The reference for the temperature of the fumarole 82-89°C was taken by Tassi et al 2011, mentioned in Henderson and Pritchard 2013, so the citing should be Tassi et al 2011 in my opinion. Some links do not work (link 13 "Putana TM Image Information". link 15 from Neimeyer Archived from the original (PDF) on 2016-03-04. Retrieved 2018-10-27). Hmm. Do you have sources that we can attach to Putana volcano should say that it is a stratovolcano and it is located in the Andean Central Volcanic Zone (CVZ) at the beginning. Also, it is always good to have a distance reference from any nearby town (like San Pedro, Machuca, or even "El Tatio") for reference. Fumaroles should say four "fumarolic" fields.? I don't have access to Rudolph 1952 and Casertano, 1963. Otherwise, these changes seem good to me. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:28, 17 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Frojasvilches07: Hi there! For reference 15, you are correct that the original PDF no longer works. However, if you click on the "Segunda Región de Antofagasta" link in that reference, you'll see an archived version of the PDF. I just changed reference 13 to behave the same way. Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:22, 20 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
