Another book? edit

A search on OCLC turns up these two books:

  • "Plasma-surface modification of biomaterials" by P K Chu. OCLC 52686210
  • "Plasma immersion ion implantation - a fledging technique for semiconductor processing" by Paul K Chu OCLC 36580417

Are they by this Paul K Chu? John Vandenberg 05:37, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

They are both articles in Elsevier review journal. OCLC is a little tricky that way. It has started entering such articles as if they were books, which is technically permitted by the cataloging rules, in order to increase the chance of someone finding something on a narrow topic. Thekey is to look at the references and see if it gives page numbers as for an article, for the second one the description is:

Plasma immersion ion implantation - a fledging technique for semiconductor processing / Author(s): Chu, Paul K. Publication: Lausanne : Elsevier, Year: 1996p. 207-280 : ill. ; 28 cm. Language: English Series: Materials science & engineering.; R,; Reports : a review journal,; 17, Nos. 6-7;

I consider this sneaky and confusing; it will work if you are at a library that has a subscription to the electronic version, because the catalog record will link to the article. It confuses everybody else, but, the publisher hopes it will guide them to follow the link to a screen that asks you to pay them $35. The more things available electronically, the more complicated. Indeed that is misleading. Thanks for that. Sounds like a factoid that should be on OCLC, or a Wikipedia: page. John Vandenberg 06:01, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
