S S Strickland

edit

The initials "S S" on the sign at Strickland's office in 1955 might refer, not to Strickland's name, but to his title, perhaps "school superintendent". (Cf. this 2006 news release about another, real, California high school, referring to "Len Foreman, superintendent and principal of the high school".) I've added this possibility to the article. The Telltale game says Gerald is his first name. --Addict 2006 19:55, 28 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

The article says that James Strickland is Gerald Strickland's great-grandfather (with a citation needed), and that the child in 1885 is his grandfather. I don't remember any explicit references, but I think it would make more sense if James were Gerald's grandfather rather than great-grandfather (and the child Gerald's father). Gerald Strickland appears the same in both 1955 and 1985 so it's hard to estimate his age, but the actor was 53 when part I was filmed. I think the character had to be at least 40 in 1955. Until an explicit reference can be found, I suggest describing Gerald Strickland as being a descendant of James and the child, and not reference them being his father, grandfather, or great-grandfather. They could also be described as ancestors, but I don't think it is very common for a parent to be called ancestor (although the article on ancestor says ancestor does include parents). Fair use rationale for Image:Marshall Strickland.JPG

edit

Image:Marshall Strickland.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Merge proposal

Jules and Verne had more than minor roles. They were barely seen in the movie and had no line to say, but compared to Strickland and Needles, they have their own article. It doesn't make sense. -- Lyverbe (talk) 13:51, 18 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

No objections within 10 days. I've done the merge. -- Lyverbe (talk) 00:55, 28 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

They were pretty important in the animated series. Wikiecam (talk) 03:34, 24 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re: Einstein (Back to the Future) redirect

edit

There is a redirect to this page regarding the character Einstein, however there isn't even a section of him. I don't know the situation, so this article may be elsewhere or not exist, but it was extremely confusing when a link took me here. Some course of action is required. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Enauspeaker (talkcontribs) 14:08, 31 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

There was once an "Einstein" article, but in July 2009, it was completely replaced with a redirect (See [1]) with the comment "non-notable plot repetition". I can't say I argue with that comment. It's true though that the redirect can be a bit confusing. Either we make an Einstein section in this article or remove the redirect. -- Lyverbe (talk) 17:19, 31 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

In comparison to the characters on this page, Einstein seems significant enough. Would a copy-and-paste job (minus the categories and the template at the bottom) suffice? If so, I'll do that right now. En-AU Speaker talk|contributions 03:48, 1 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Considering "The Game" in articles

edit

I wonder if the articles (not only this article but also dedicated articles to BTTF characters) should really use BTTF:The Game as valid information. I think the articles should reflect what happen in the movie and not anywhere else. For example, Marty's article states that he has visited 1931 which is not true for anyone who hasn't played the game. I haven't seen any episodes of the animated series, but the list of episodes says they've been 3,000,000 years back, in 1790, in 1800s, etc. If we have to mention The game years, I don't see why we shouldn't add those of the 'animated series'. Do we want to go there? of course not. -- Lyverbe (talk) 02:29, 25 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Marty's siblings

edit

They obviously should be here, but.. I dunno, admittedly there's not much to write about them. I wouldn't know what to put down. From the last time I watched the films, all I can remember is that Linda wants to have boyfriends but is prevented from doing so by an over-protective Lorraine, and Dave works in some dead-end job as a pizza delivery guy or something. Were they even seen or mentioned in the sequels? Granted, they are very minor characters, but still notable enough in that they are indirectly involved in the main plot of the first film (with them and Marty gradually disappearing from the photo), and have prominent speaking roles at the very beginning and end. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 19:13, 27 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Actually, scratch all that. I only just noticed that they're already mentioned fleetingly within the George McFly section! The perils of skim-reading, huh.. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 21:57, 27 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Dogs

edit

There is an article on Einstein on this page. Einstein was Doc's dog. However, Doc had anouther dog in 1955 named Copernicus. I think there should be an article on Copernicus if there is one about Einstein for this reason, Copernicus came first. I think the reason noone does it is because they they think Copernicus and Einstein are the same dog. I hope they add one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.249.96.26 (talk) 14:13, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

There is already a section on Copernicus in this article. -- Lyverbe (talk) 17:58, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I think that Copernicus is not very important because 1955 is not the primary time in the back to the future series. Wikiecam (talk) 03:32, 24 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

An image used in this article, File:Jennifer1&2.png, has been nominated for speedy deletion for the following reason: Wikipedia files with no non-free use rationale as of 3 December 2011

What should I do?

Don't panic; you should have time to contest the deletion (although please review deletion guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to provide a fair use rationale

Jennifer Parker

edit

This sentence is saying the end of BTF 1 was reshot with Shue.

"Consequently, the final scene of Back to the Future, which leads to Back to the Future Part II and which is shown at the beginning of that movie, was re-shot with Shue taking Wells' place."
or
"the final scene of Back to the Future, which ...and which, was re-shot with Shue taking Wells' place."
I changed it to
"Consequently, the opening scene of Back to the Future II was re-shot with Shue taking Wells' place, rather than using the ending of Back to the Future."

Pictures of George McFly

edit

I'm wondering why there are two pictures of George in this article, but none of Lorraine, while Lorraine was at least as important in the entire trilogy as George was. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.210.184.68 (talk) 15:14, 1 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

This could be to show the "George McFly" played by different actors? But there are no pictures of any Tannen and they also played a major role in the movie. -- Lyverbe (talk) 22:41, 1 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Main Characters

edit

I take issue with including Clara Clayton (Mary Steenburgen) as one of the main characters of the Back To The Futurefranchise. Clara Clayton was only in the final movie of the trilogy, and was only an afterthought to give Doc Brown a love. Lorraine Baines-Mcyfly (Lea Thompson)was a far more important character in the series, & should be listed as one of the main cast of characters. --Splashen (talk) 15:49, 17 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I agree, Clayton should not be included in the main character section. Bergeronpp (talk) 02:27, 29 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Can we please remove them? Unless there is a source for them? Even if they have grandkids with those last names, it doesn't mean these three men had those names. 205.175.118.201 (talk) 22:50, 15 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
