Confusing lead
editThe lead appears to confuse two different incidents. According to the Daily Nation (24 April), the provocation for the massacre was the recent killing of 15 Mungiki gang members by vigilantes from a neighboring district. The 21 April incident was the retaliatory massacre of 29 villagers in Gathaithi and Kiaruhiu in Mathira by the Mungiki. Most of those victims were not Mungiki; the earlier Independent story (22 April) appears to have been based on confused initial reports. I would recommend searching for further later sources to provide a clearer story. Askari Mark (Talk) 20:27, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
