Title
edit@Ham II: The article about the person depicted is Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette. Do you think Statue of Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette is appropriate? ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:17, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, Another Believer. I'd suggest Statue of the Marquis de Lafayette (New York City), as with Statue of the Earl of Derby, Parliament Square, for someone identified by his title for short. The disambiguation by location is needed as there are several works at c:Category:Statues of La Fayette. I've moved another statue at Union Square to Equestrian statue of George Washington (New York City). Ham II (talk) 18:01, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- I'd oppose this one. Maybe do an RM. And duh, Bartholdi doesn't have a template yet. I'll toss one together later today, as well as a Lafayette template over the weekend that I've already done a written outline for but will need help on the French revolution section. Randy Kryn (talk) 18:55, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- Randy Kryn, Can you clarify, which title would you oppose? Or, rather, what's your preferred title? ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:13, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- Marquis de Lafayette (Bartholdi), as it is now. This statue is the honoring of the co-author of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen by the sculptor of Liberty Enlightening the World, a title which packs a double wallop of human rights and freedom. Randy Kryn (talk) 20:33, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- I agree that it's a powerful combination of subject and sculptor, but couldn't the reader get that from reading the article? Ham II (talk) 20:51, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- Sure, so unless this is the real name of the sculpture (and why wouldn't it be?) then my oppose is more of an WP:ILIKEIT. Is there any indication Bartholdi had another name for it? Randy Kryn (talk) 14:22, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Marquis de Lafayette (Bartholdi) → Statue of the Marquis de Lafayette (New York City) – Per WP:VAMOS, which says, "For portrait sculptures of individuals in public places the forms "Statue of Fred Foo", "Equestrian statue of Fred Foo" or "Bust of Fred Foo" are recommended, unless a form such as "Fred Foo Memorial" or "Monument to Fred Foo" is the WP:COMMONNAME. If further disambiguation is needed, because there is more than one sculpture of the same person with an article, then disambiguation by location rather than the sculptor is usually better. This may be done as either "Statue of Fred Foo (Chicago)" (typically preferred for North America) or "Statue of Fred Foo, Glasgow" (typically preferred elsewhere)." Disambiguation is required because there are other statues of the subject, including Major General Marquis Gilbert de Lafayette, which I've also proposed moving... ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:00, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support, avoids confusion between the persona and his later statue.--Bob not snob (talk) 07:49, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support per nom. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:18, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support per nom, and for consistency with the other statues on Union Square: Equestrian statue of George Washington (New York City), Statue of Abraham Lincoln (New York City) and Statue of Mahatma Gandhi (New York City). Ham II (talk) 15:40, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
