Remove the "along with his parents" part because the source article for that does not mention it at all. Disastrous Thing 733 (talk) 13:32, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Revieing currently, but this page is pretty unstable

My Inputs

edit

Improve by adding dhoni's role and performance in the following

  • Do not touch the infobox many editors here are having their own field day with it. I have fixed it according to all specifications, do not dismiss it as "unnecessary", no. Its been there on many featured articles and it should stay.
  • There is absolutely nothing about the ICC tournaments. He was a winning CWC Captain, you'd think his wiki would have details. Refer to India at the Cricket World Cup and add, for all four editions.
  • He was criticised for many reasons during 2019 Cricket World Cup
  • Spat with Yuvraj and Sehwag
  • 2009 T20 World Cup wc press conference
  • He was mentor at the 2021 T20 World Cup
  • IPL finals
  • Jersey retired by BCCI
  • Surge in popularity during 2023
  • Playing style should have his unique keeping technique, of which he has given many interviews
  • few pictures with team-mates
  • Better thumbnail picture, as it is already getting re-used below
I have often seen suggestions being made like these on GA reviews. I havent failed it, I have put it on hold. All these are valid points and go towards the improvement of the article. Pharaoh496 (talk) 15:09, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Apologies. I was trying to give suggestions, but I understand your point. Pharaoh496 (talk) 15:29, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Cleanups:

  • Few places contain wrong grammar and punctuation.
  • The [IPL] section medal record has a small win and runner up bar for csk and a very large one for rps.
  • In [Honours] section the ipl 2023 has an ipl 2013 ref
I think grammars all right. Pharaoh496 (talk) 15:10, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Other editors, please feel free to add. Magentic Manifestations

@Pharaoh496 I have made changes for the specific points you have raised and reverted on the others. If you have further comments, you can point out the same. With regards to the subjective comments content of the article, other users and yourself can contribute as it has no relevance to the GA review or criteria. Thanks!

Pharaoh496, please return to complete this review. If you are unfamiliar with the process, please consult the GA instructions: "Once you start a review, you are committing to complete it in a timely manner. Do not stop half way through and just leave it." ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 16:21, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I dont know why but I was not notified of the above message. I will get to it. Pharaoh496 (talk) 17:32, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Magentic Manifestations A few more things I would like to say:
  • A bit of the [Early Career] and [Domestic Career] is repeated. I would suggest either merging it to form [Early and Domestic Career] or removing repetitions.
  • The bit about "Roar of the Lion" is repeated in [Outside Cricket] and [In popular culture]. I would suggest removing it from the former section completely.
  • I am not sure on this point, but according to Wikipedia:Minors and persons judged incompetent; shouldnt we remove the name of Dhoni's daughter?
  • "praised for his lightning-fast glove-work" (In [Playing style]); replace "lightning-fast" with a more formal way of conveying the same message.
  • In the infobox, under the awards; I propose removing everything else other than Padma Bhushan as that is the award Dhoni recieved during his Military career.
Other than this, it does meet the GA criteria. Well done! Pharaoh496 (talk) 15:42, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Pharaoh496 Revert to the points below:
  1. Merging will not help as it will disturb the chronology altogether. Have modified the line.
  2. Yes, removed the repetition.
  3. Yes, name is not required. Removed.
  4. Simplified phrase
  5. Dhoni is primarily a sportsperson, so it was incorrect to have included it under military awards. It has been moved to the top of the infobox.

Passing it now. Congratulations! Pharaoh496 (talk) 08:13, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

MS Dhoni the fourth player to...

edit

So, in 2002, when ICC hosted the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy, the final between India and Sri Lanka was rained out. As a result, the trophy was jointly awarded and the players on both sides won. This is easily referencable.

Now, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh were part of that ICC Champions Trophy winning team. They subsequently won the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 Cricket World Cup. As a result, they were the first players to win all three white ball tournaments, and Dhoni joined them as the fourth when he won the 2013 CT.

I propose a small bit about this, not elaborated, be added on all four players' articles. Magentic Manifestations Pharaoh496 (talk) 14:16, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Pharaoh496 In my opinion, it is better to state the fact as is saying Dhoni has won so and so. Absolutely not required to do a laundry list of people who have achieved the same feat. With regards to the ICC trophies, I had made a change to state that Dhoni has won three limited overs tournament rather than white-ball, as limited overs is a better term in the cricketing parlance. Magentic Manifestations (talk) 14:50, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Agree on the last point.
The first may seem as a laundry list, but if you really consider the significance of the achievement, it really isnt.
Take a look at the five aussie cricketers: smith, warner, hazelwood, cummins and im forgetting the last one. Point is they won tournaments in 3 formats, and thats mentioned, for all five on each of their pages. This is surely a similar achievement. Pharaoh496 (talk) 15:01, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
In the pages you have referred, say Steve Smith for e.g., as it is a good article, there is no mention of names in the lead of the article. It simply mentions his wins in the ICC trophies. It has been mentioned in the body of the article in the section with sufficient citations. I am perfectly fine if you want to mention this in the corresponding section of the article with appropriate references. My point is that it is not sourced anywhere and not required to clutter the lead. Hope you get the point. Thanks! Magentic Manifestations (talk) 15:20, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good. Lets do it. Pharaoh496 (talk) 16:05, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Honorary rank

edit

Should the honorary rank be included in the honorific prefix column in the infobox or not? I do not see any featured BLPs with honorary ranks, so I am asking for opinions on this? Xoocit (talk) 22:38, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
