Requested move

Because that's what the article is -- the early margraves were not electors, and the later kings are rarely called electors. Prussia, of course, would be taken to mean only the state that developed out of Brandenburg. Support. --Chl 22:11, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

The Kings in and of Prussia, until 1806, were most certainly still also electors. That said, I would suggest List of rulers of Brandenburg as the alternative location. john k 00:01, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Oppose for the time being, at least absent discussion of those details mentioned above in the text. I also wonder whether or not this belongs in a "list of" category absent an article about the subject of the list, and in sorting this out, List of Kings of Prussia and Kingdom of Prussia (see my point about an article in addition to the "List of" article?) need to be brought into the picture. OK, it makes sense to leave a stub about the elector at this location and move only the list part. I suggested to call the new location of the list "List of rulers of Brandenburg and Prussia" because then we could continue the list all the way to 1945 (and we could merge List of kings of Prussia into it) -- which would make sense since there is a clear continuity between Brandenburg, the Kingdom of Prussia, and then the Republic of Prussia. --Chl 02:03, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Err...why did you move to a title which was supported by two people, when I preferred a different move title and Gene Nygaard opposed the move? (sorry I missed the actual move - must have slipped my attention. At any rate, I'd much prefer List of rulers of Brandenburg, which is more clearly appropriate. john k 04:15, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Reorganize articles?

The relationship between this article and the list at Margraviate of Brandenburg is rather non-intuitive, and the existence large number of articles on different versions of Prussia (including "Brandenburg-Prussia") doesn't help matters. One of the problems is that Prussia and Brandenburg were originally distinct entities, and after they became unified under one ruler, the center of gravity between the two titles shifted; in 1701, the titles "Duke of Prussia" and "King in Prussia" were clearly secondary to the rank of Elector of Brandenburg, but during the course of the 18th century, Prussia became more clearly an independent state, and the Electorate, both as a title and as a function, had less significance. Pinning down the exact point at which that happened is, of course, impossible, and so deciding whether to list the monarchs in the period 1701-1806 as primarily rulers of Brandenburg, or rulers of Prussia, is equally difficult.

My suggestion is that the article be split into "Rulers of Brandenburg" and "Rulers of Prussia" -- the latter including the Hohenzollern Dukes as well as kings, the former ceasing with the cessation of the Electorate in 1806 (though noting that the Electors continued to rule as Kings of Prussia).RandomCritic 20:41, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Frederick I?

I'm just a high school student, and I definitely could be wrong, but wasn't the title of "King in Prussia" changed to "King of Prussia" for Frederick I rather than Frederick II/Frederick the Great?

@76.230.72.70 Frederick I was only King in Prussia, but when he became King, the entity he ruled over became known as the Kingdom of Prussia. HUNGA (talk) 18:30, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Anglicizations of names

Most of the rulers with "Wilhelm" in their name are anglicized to William on this page. This differs, however, for Wilhelm I and II. Should this be changed to "William" for consistency?

Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld

I think Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld should be shown as the daugher of Francis, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. The line connecting them would fit perfectly. HUNGA (talk) 16:24, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
