Article title

edit

It might be a good idea to move this to a different title, such as List of Nickelodeon original movies or the like. --Coredesat 05:34, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, but the article it's about the movies that Nickeldeon has aired.--201.171.58.213 (talk) 03:07, 12 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Are You Afraid of the Dark Movie

edit

Does anyone remember there being a AYAOTD movie? I recall this, with the kids around the campfire being involved in the actual story... but I can't find any traces of this anywhere, on Wikipedia or otherwise. 68.210.227.229 (talk) 16:09, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I remember watching it when it aired. It turns out it was the first three episodes of the seventh season- The Tale of the Silver Sight, parts 1, 2, & 3. It was definitely advertised as a movie when it was first broadcast. I'll add it to the list as Are You Afraid of the Dark: The Tale of the Silver Sight unless anyone has serious qualms. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gold1618 (talkcontribs) 12:25, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Looks like Nickelodeon adopted its current name in 1979, not 1981

edit

Pinwheel Channel adopted the Nickelodeon name on April 1, 1979, as soon as it expanded to buffalo. The circumstances about Nick being known as Pinwheel until 1981 is incorrect. Newspapers were made in 1979 about Nick, in fact, the channel wasn't even called Pinwheel.

Here's a newspaper article from 1979 that states this. [1]

Original movies

edit

This list should contain films that are unique in some aspect to Nickelodeon. Listing movies like Toy Story and Adventures in Babysitting is pretty trivial information and as useless as a list of films broadcast by HBO. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 23:17, 6 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree; the list of non-Nickelodeon movies aired has been a large target for vandalism in the past months and the ones listed might be wrong.--Caldorwards4 (talk) 23:30, 6 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
I do hate to revive old discussions, but this list is for 'Films that were broadcasted by Nickelodeon', which would include non-Nickelodeon movies. -- »»»DavidTwo2012«««  17:45, 16 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Entries that are "out of the scope" of this list

edit

This list contains/has contained in the past many entries that are out of the announced Scope of this article – e.g. all of the two-episode, one-hour "special" episodes of Nickelodeon series. These aren't "films", which is the declared scope of this article. (And even if Nickelodeon declared them as "films", we would require Reliable sourcing to show that before including them here...) As such, they should be removed from the list here, and several editors are beginning the process of doing so.

In addition, the true "film" entries included in this list are seriously under-sourced. I'm beginning the process of adding sourcing to the true "Nickelodeon Original Films" such as Jinxed and Nicky Deuce, etc. But it is very likely that the entries in this list that are simply Nickelodeon "rebroadcasts" of theatrical films (e.g. The Last Airbender, Free Willy) will not be sourceable. I haven't gotten to those yet, but if I can't find sourcing for those, I am going to start adding {{citation needed}} tags to them as a precursor to potentially removing them from the list for failing to adhere to Wikipedia's Verifiability policy.

Let me state up front that I agree with the posters in the thread before this one, that the focus of this list should be narrowed to just a listing of Nickelodeon Original Films. But let's see if anything else in this list can be properly sourced first... --IJBall (contribstalk) 04:31, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'm just noting: this from The Futon Critic. Everything in this list is tagged as a "Special". I note that movies, such a Rufus and Liar, Liar Vampire are not included. It may be that anything included in this Futon Critic list should not be included in the article... --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:24, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
That listing looks to be for what Nick classed and advertised as specials. I don't see anything there that looks like television movies or theatrically released movies being shown on television. What is in list looks out-of-scope for this article. Geraldo Perez (talk) 18:28, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Update: Progress is being made here – many of the one-hour episodes have been pulled out of the list. (Some still remain: e.g. there are a bunch of Winx Club entries which I'm pretty sure need to be pulled out too, but I haven't had a chance to go through them yet...) But this list is starting to get manageable again, leaving mostly just Nickelodeon Original Films listed, along with some 90+ minute "film"-type episodes of shows such as iCarly and Big Time Rush. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:18, 1 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Requested semi-protection of article: I am aware this article has pending changes set, but I have made request to WP:RPP to semi-protect the article for the time being as recent edits by several IPs in the past couple of days have attempted to re-add what has already been removed. MPFitz1968 (talk) 17:02, 4 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Good call. I should have added an 'Under construction' tag to this article (I'll do that now) – but I'm still in the process of going through the list and trimming it down (the last couple of days I've been prevented from doing more on this by real-world work stuff...) but it's slow-going as I'm having to check the episodes of a lot of (animated) shows that I have never seen. And the IPs trying to undo all of this (including the removal of recently added sourcing) without any discussion is really unhelpful. --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:39, 4 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

 – As of 07:02, 13 March 2016 (UTC).

OK, most entries in the list are now sourced, and most of the ones that couldn't be verified as "movies" or "films" have been removed from the list. There are a still few entries that aren't currently sourced: most of these are Nicktoons that aired as 90-minute special movies but which did not get independent press coverage. The biggest hole in sourcing is for the Roxy Hunter series of movies: I simply couldn't find any independent sourcing for these (though I was able to verify that they exist, and that they are legitimately "movies"). The other remaining entries have been tagged with either {{citation needed}} or {{dubious}} tags, and may need to eventually be removed from the list if sourcing isn't found.

The most important thing now is that new additions to the list must be sourced to indicate that they are "films" or "movies" (preferably with sourcing that also clearly indicates the premiere airdate), and preferably with sourcing independent of Nickelodeon. Any new additions to list that are not sourced will need be removed from now on. --IJBall (contribstalk) 07:02, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Alex & Me is out of WP:SCOPE

edit

After some investigation, I have found some sources that mention Alex & Me, which Nickelodeon will broadcast soon: [2], [3], [4], [5]. The first and last sources make clear that this film was produced by Warner Brothers, not Nickelodeon, and was released as a direct-to-video film back in June. Thus, the Nickelodeon broadcast is nothing more than a cable TV reairing of a film that has already been released. That puts it out of WP:SCOPE for this article, as this list is simply for films that have their premieres on Nickelodeon – which are generally just so-called "Nickelodeon original films" (which this film is not). --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:23, 8 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Also note that Nickelodeon advertisements for this did not refer to it as a "Nickelodeon Original Movie". --IJBall (contribstalk) 23:32, 16 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

List of films broadcast by NickelodeonList of Nickelodeon original films – Work performed on this article over the last two and half year has involved sourcing all its extant entries, and removing everything that was unsourced/unsourceable, particularly the rebroadcast of theatrically-released films which couldn't be sourced and are frankly non-notable ("reruns") anyway. The result of this work is that the WP:SCOPE of this article has shifted and changed: the current WP:SCOPE of the article is now "films" that have had their premieres on the U.S. Nickelodeon television channel. Thus, the article's current scope is now similar to List of Disney Channel original films – namely, films produced by Nickelodeon for the intent to premiere/be broadcast on Nickelodeon: i.e. so-called "Nickelodeon original films". As such, I am proposing that this article be moved to correctly reflect the current WP:SCOPE of the article. (See the earlier topics on this Talk page for more.) --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:34, 8 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps. But they are often "branded"/advertised that way – i.e. as a "Nickelodeon original film". Also, your suggested title may not be WP:PRECISE enough, as Nickelodeon Movies releases Nick's theatrical films, and this article definitely doesn't cover that... --IJBall (contribstalk) 18:37, 10 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Reliable sources not reliable?

edit

I really don't understand this. How are verified twitter account tweets not classified as relevant sources? GalaxyFighter55 (talk) 18:33, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@GalaxyFighter55: In looking again, it is clear that @netflixfamily is an "official" Netflix Twitter account – so the Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling looks to check out. However, it does not appear to me that @NXOnNetflix account is an "official" Netflix account – yes, it's "verified", but that doesn't mean it's from Netflix – and if it's not an official Nick or Netflix account, I don't think it can be used.
Then we have another issue – Do either of these qualify as "Nickelodeon original movies" if they don't end up ending airing on Nickelodeon (first)? In other words, if these don't go to Nick, and go instead to Netflix, are they out of WP:SCOPE for this article?... On that question, I don't have a clear idea. I'm going to ping Geraldo Perez and Amaury to see what their opinions on this question are... --IJBall (contribstalk) 19:07, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
If they don't air on Nickelodeon at all, then they can't be considered NOMs. While he cannot be used a source, from what I saw on Nickandmore!'s Twitter, Nickelodeon sold the rights of both films to Netflix, likely because Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie didn't do as well as Nickelodeon hoped, considering they pulled a rerun that was scheduled the day after. Amaury (talk | contribs) 19:12, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
OK, if Nick sold the rights to them to Netflix, then I agree that they don't quality as NOMs and are thus out-of-WP:SCOPE (and should be removed from the list). Waiting to see what Geraldo has to say on the subject... --IJBall (contribstalk) 19:16, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Working off the lead paragraph that defines the scope of the article requires both "produced for Nickelodeon" and labeled "Nickelodeon Original Movie". Doesn't look like it fits the scope of this article. Geraldo Perez (talk) 19:22, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Earlier I had acted immature in my belief over the sources being 100% definitive in an edit war over a user. I would like to additionally apologize to that user. Sorry about that, Amaury.GalaxyFighter55 (talk) 20:34, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout

edit

Does SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout count as a Nickelodeon original movie?

No – it was not marketed as such, and I have seen no source refer to it as such. Instead, it was a "special". --IJBall (contribstalk) 22:08, 14 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Persistent removal of Snow Day and Baby Shark's Big Movie from the list

edit

Over the last couple of weeks, a few IPs have been removing these two, and claiming they are not TV films. The sources cited for both beg to differ. All of these IP edits have been reverted. If further discussion is needed regarding the status of these two entries, it should be here. And any claims that these are not TV films need to be backed by reliable sources and presented here if discussed (otherwise, these IP claims are original research). As for whether they are Nickelodeon films, I'm seeing in the article for Snow Day that it was produced by Nickelodeon Productions. Don't know about the other one, though the sources hint at it, at least. MPFitz1968 (talk) 17:27, 29 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
