Talk:List of ex officio delegates to the 2006 Liberal Party of Canada leadership election

Curman edit

Tompettyfan, instead of changing him back to a supporter of Dion (without any citation), perhaps you could look at the footnote attached beside his name (GK's website states that Curman has endorsed Kennedy). If this is a mistake, then address it but at this point you are merely changing my posts (based on something I can point to) and replacing it with yours (which are as of yet unsubstantiated). Thanks, Redina

See more recent source for Curman. He indicated by interview to the Hill Times that he is voting Dion (October 30th, 2006 Edition) - TomPettyFan 14:45, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Other edit

Need more riding presidents. I bet they are on the Provincial or territoral association websites.- TomPettyFan 21:43, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

No they are not, the missing provinces do not have them listed - Jord 18:04, 4 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
They are actually on the LPC website, in the most bizarre and obtuse way possible. If you figure out the URL syntax you can find them. http://liberal.ca/bio_e.aspx?&id=48001 (48 = Alberta province code from Elections Canada; 001 = riding code; they go from 001 to 028.) I don't have time right now, but the "riding contacts" listed are the riding presidents. --Hamiltonian 19:44, 4 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the info! I will pull out those from the missing provinces once I am finished formatting the PCs - Jord 14:11, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, the Alberta section is fairly out of date - there have been several AGM's and endorsements in the meantime, since the chart with this information was published. Additionally, there are some candidates that have endorsed (Ted Haney, Matthew Moody) who there just dosen't seem to be any mention of.

Question edit

If a sitting Liberal MP crosses the floor or leaves the party to sit as an independent, who takes over as the riding's delegate, since they would have no candidate or MP? CrazyC83 05:08, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

From my reading of the constitution, unless a new candidate has been selected (as in Vancouver--Kingsway's case), the spot would just be unfilled. From the text itself 13(a) "...where any constituency is not represented in the House of Commons by a member of the Liberal Party, the Liberal candidate defeated in the last federal general election or by-election, or if a new Liberal candidate has been nominated, such new candidate;"--Hamiltonian 12:45, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hamiltonian is correct. - TomPettyFan 19:05, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bob Rae edit

Bob Rae is a member of the Privy Council and a member of the Liberal Party so he is an ex-officio delegate.

Senator Lavigne edit

Senator Lavigne is no longer a member of the Liberal caucus, as he was ejected last summer. He should be removed from the list.--Smith87 01:48, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

For these purposes he is still an ex-officio because he is a Liberal Party Member, and a Senator. That is how it is written into the constitution.- TomPettyFan 12:31, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Do PTA delegations belong here? edit

I don't really view them as technically "ex-officio" because they are elected by a body of the party to attend the convention, just as delegates from ridings, clubs, etc are. Should they be listed here or on another page? Maybe the name of this page needs to change? - Jord 13:57, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I believe so. These delegates, combined with the delegates listed on the Liberal Party website, represent a complete list of all voting delegates at the convention. If you remove the PTA elected delegates then you are left with an incomplete picture. - TomPettyFan 15:39, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Additionally, If you have any of the lists of delegates selected by the PTAs please add all of the names of the delegates. - TomPettyFan 15:48, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am not suggesting that these delegates should not be listed somewhere, I am just saying they are not ex-officio delegates so maybe they belong on a different page or maybe this page should be renamed. As I mentioned on your talk page, I list all the information I have. - Jord 16:07, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Point taken. Technically they are "at-large" delegates. Changing the page name to reflect that is one option.- TomPettyFan 16:25, 14 November 2006 (UTC).Reply
I Have added a notation to that effect.- TomPettyFan 19:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am starting to think you are right on this. It isn't working out, and we can't seem to assemble complete lists. I am going to get rid of the PTA delegates ... thoughts? - TomPettyFan 02:54, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Strongly disagree. We need to have this people listed to have an accurate tally, it was a nomenclature problem for the page, not a problem with the delegates being here. - Jord 03:23, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hey Jord. If the list is going to continue to be this incomplete it risks portraying a vastly _inaccurate_ tally. Any thoughts on how we can get those remaining lists of names of delegates in here? - TomPettyFan 19:18, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well I don't think that finding the missing names would help. Presumably if we can't figure out who these delegates are, if we had their names we wouldn't be able to figure out who they support. What is the difference between having a list with missing names, and a list with names missing their leadership candidates of support? We'd still have the same totals and as it stands now, well over a third are unknown. Moreover, there are more serious inaccuracies in the list, since this was created I would estimate somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 of ridings have had AGMs and elected new presidents. - Jord 17:42, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pearson edit

Is there a source for him supporting Dion? He is listed on Kennedy's site as supporting him [1] - Jord 14:39, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
