The Horse carries them to victory. Where are the Horses names? No Horse no Medal. Culnacreann 01:29, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

The humans must have carried the saddles and jumped the fences themselves.

Thought

edit

One of these days, and not a big deal, maybe add a link to the FEI and note that vaulting and combined driving are recognized by the FEI, but not yet (or yet again) Olympic events. Down the road, I wonder if there is any logic to adding some of the excellent article text to Equestrian at the Summer Olympics? You have done a great job with this very daunting task.. Montanabw(talk) 04:35, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

There is a link to the FEI (end of second paragraph of lead). I'm thinking that the vaulting and combined driving are getting a little off-topic with the scope of this list (it's supposed to be just about the medalists), although it would be good information for the Equestrian at the Summer Olympics article. When I start work on that main article (I'm planning to, at some point soon), I think I'm just going to do a copy and paste of the intro from this list to the article and start from there. It's already sourced, it's currently being picked over by the people at FLC, and it'll be a good solid start. Dana boomer (talk) 13:18, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Where I was thinking about a need for it was a few words in the sections for combined driving and vaulting, which at present are not Olympic sports, but one were or may be in the future. Bu I think you're right about your idea of redoing Equestrian at the Summer Olympics and you are right that when it's ready, a lot of this material could go there. That makes a lot of sense. (If you feel really ambitious, the FEI article itself could use some improvement. Montanabw(talk) 03:57, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

Another thought: can't the captions name the horses and riders? They're rather belittling as they are. The Old Trout — Preceding unsigned comment added by The Old Trout (talkcontribs) 18:51, 4 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

We generally don't include the names of horses and riders in image captions, as it puts too much weight on individual pairings. Also, several of the images aren't of Olympic events or riders anyways, so their names are of no real interest in the scope of the article. In response to your edit summary, I rechecked, and per Olympic Equestrian by Bryant, Parker rode Cornish Gold at the 1972 Munich Games. Do you have another sources that says otherwise? Re your answer on captions ('several of the images aren't of Olympic events or riders anyway') - if the article's a list of Olympic medallists in equestrian (see title), why are those particular images used? (Genuine question, I'm not trying to be difficult)The Old Trout (talk) 17:30, 1 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I guess I should have phrased my statement a little better. There are some images of Olympic medalist riders at other events, such as the one of Leslie Law at Burghley. There are others of non-medalists competing in the Olympics, such as the lead image. There are still others that are neither (they are not of the Olympics and they are not of Olympic riders), such as the vaulting image. These are mainly there because I couldn't find suitable images that directly pertained to the Olympics, but wanted something to illustrate the section/sport. If you can find better images, I would love to use them, but a lot of times the images on Commons/Flickr are added by spectators who were obviously sitting very far away and/or not using a very good camera - they are blurry, from weird angles, show nothing of interest, etc. So, for instance, I prefer the Rebecca Holder image in the team eventing section to the Leslie Law image in the individual eventing section because it shows more of the sport, despite the fact that Holder is not an Olympic medalists and the event at which the photo was taken isn't the Olympics. Like I said though, if you have better images in mind, please feel free to drop them here for discussion - I'd love to have some better shots of Olympic medalists at Olympic events to illustrate this article. The ft|cm converter is out by 2 inches!!

edit

The High Jump says 1.80m = 5'9". Thats wrong by 2 inches. 5'9" = 1.75m (175cm). 1.80m = 5'11". I'm put it in Manually. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.163.30.100 (talk) 23:28, 3 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
