Proposed re-inclusion of last edit "Non-sovereign devolved countries"
editScotland and Wales are class both classed as countries, they have their own national parliaments but are not sovereign and so should be included under a heading such as "Non-sovereign devolved countries" or something similar. Looking to attain consensus for this or an alternative suggestion. Thanks!Titus Gold (talk) 21:04, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
- IMHO, they shouldn't be included & Northern Ireland should be excluded. They're not "dependent territories". GoodDay (talk) 05:36, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- The article is 'List of sovereign states and dependent territories in Europe' - neither Scotland nor Wales (nor Northern Ireland) fit, regardless of them being 'classed as countries'. Llwyld (talk) 05:56, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- I agree with your thoughts here after removal of Northern Ireland and I agree that Wales, England, Scotland and NI are not sovereign. I am considering creating a separate category such as ''Non-sovereign countries of Europe". Titus Gold (talk) 14:28, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Cyprus and Armenia

Kazakhstan? No
editHow is Kazakhstan part of Europe? This is wrong a part of Kazakhstan borders Russia which is European majority. But it does not make Kazakhstan a European country.
- You're correct that Kazakhstan is not a European country, but it does "have territory in Europe," so it falls under the current scope of this article (which, by the way, is not denominated "European sovereign states," but "sovereign states in Europe"). If you feel strongly about changing the scope of the article to exclude Kazakhstan (and presumably Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Cyprus and Armenia as well), feel free to start an RFC. - Happy for Turkey, Armenia and Cyprus to remain as they are because they are literally Europe. Turkey can also be considered both Europe and Asia.
- Cyprus and Armenia are, geographically, wholly within the continent of Asia, so I don't understand why you characterize them as "literally Europe." (Turkey is transcontinental, though, with a small portion of its territory within Europe.) AuH2ORepublican (talk) 19:55, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- Cyprus is next to Greece. People in Cyprus are mainly Greek and Turkish. Armenia is considered Europe for some reason.
