honorary members? really?

edit

It is flaky to list Rosa Parks, Ella Fitzgerald, Maya Angelou, Nefertiti, and every other famous person who was given honorary membership status. Some of the talk here even mentions some honorary members that did go to university were in actual other sororities! I was in a fraternity and all I'm saying is that just sounds like a way to inflate the list. Besides, there are tons of legit members on the list without it. It isn't like my fraternity claims every famous person was a member. Just saying. Jawz101 (talk) 20:06, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

I agree this list of notables stands on its own, without the honorary members. One solution would be to create a section for Honorary Members. Rublamb (talk) 20:25, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I support, will place edit to separate honorary members later. There is a lot of revamping that needs to be done on this page. Arw0399 (talk) 01:49, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Arw0399: That would be great. In the meantime, WikiProject Fraternities and Sororities discussed this subject regarding another article and concluded that there should be a seperate list for groups that have many honory members. Rublamb (talk) 16:00, 27 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have moved all of them, I think. Can you double check and move any remaining photos. Thanks. Rublamb (talk) 01:10, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Add Diane L.Adams, MD to the the list of Alpha Kappa Alpha members. She is a member of Theta Omega Omega Chapter. She is the founder of the first informatics and information technology division of the American Public Health Association, a 150 year old organization devoted to advocacy. She is also author of the bestseller, "Health Issues for Women of Color: A Cultural Diversity Perspective" (Sage Publications, 1995). 2603:6080:CC40:DF00:FD7D:E113:68DC:BD86 (talk) 23:35, 23 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Here is a source that confirms notability and her connection to Alpha Kappa Alpha. Rublamb (talk) 15:56, 27 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Notability

edit

Because this is one of the few FL (Feature List) status articles for a Greek letter organization, additions and edits must maintain a high standard. Members do not have to have an article in Wikipedia to be on this list, but they do need to meet the guidelines for notability. Meaning that there are enough sources to create an article for the individual (and some of those sources are cited in this article). In addition, there really needs to be a source that connects members to Alpha Kappa Alpha. At this time, there are many unsourced names on the list and/or individuals that do not meet notability based on a quick Google search.

I am in the process of cleaning up the list and will be removing individuals who do not appear to meet Wikipedia's standard notability. This is no reflection on the amazing accomplishments of these members—it just means that secondary sources are not readily findable. They can always be restored to the list once they have an article in Wikipedia OR someone takes the time to find and cite better sources (the individual or Alpha Kappa Alpha's website does not prove notability).
