There are no strong reasons for considering this to be an Irish song, but it has been recorded by The Dubliners, The Pogues and others, so no reason to change it. Ogg 21:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
"Recorded"? edit
"It was collected as a sailor's song, but recorded only twice, from the Americans Richard Maitland and Captain Patrick Tayluer" - this is a confusing sentence, particularly as it's followed by a list of artistes who've made audio recordings of the song. Is the sentence trying to claim that Maitland and Tayluer were the first people (independantly of each other) to write it down? "History" edit
This article is too Americocentric - The "Origins" subsection of the song's history is simply relaying what happened with it after it was first heard in the U.S. Those are not "Origins", those are merely details applicable to Americans' first contact with the song.
