Possible row. edit

Saving this link for the time being, pending a couple days to see if this breaks out into a larger political row.

LIAT alliance Virgin Atlantic section edit

It would appear that Virgin Atlantic do not have a baggage transfer agreement with LIAT. Bags have to be checked in again at the airport e.g. Antigua. Passengers have to go through immigration, pick-up bags, go through customs, check-in baggage at LIAT desk, go through emmigration and security checks. The reason for this is the differing baggage allowances between the two airlines. A full allowance on Virgin Atlantic would result in an excess baggage charge on LIAT. The following was received from Virgin Atlantic customer services (17/11/2011):

e-mail: customer.services@fly.virgin.com Enquiry Ref: 1334008/CCUCRW/1

"Virgin Atlantic does not have an agreement with Liat for your bags to be checked through, so you will need to check your bags in separately for both flights. I would also advise to check Liat's baggage allowance, as it may be a different allowance to our flight."

I can confirm this is correct having transferred through Antigua on 20/01/2012

If an alliance agreement does exist I think it needs to be clarified.
