NB: Outdated official schedule?

edit

Ladies and gentlemen, I've came across a serious inconsistency regarding flights schedule at Zhuliany. At least two Ukrainian airlines, Motor Sich Airlines and Business Aviation Center, claim they're beginning scheduled flights to/from the airport to Zaporizhia[1] and Uzhhorod[2]. However, none of these flights is visible on the airport's very official schedule board.

We could of course suspect the airlines of wishful thinking (or failure to pay the bribes for that matter) if only it wasn't about a government-run airport company. As everything government-run in Ukraine is... hilarious, there's a small possibility that the flights in question are available for passengers bot not mentioned on the site. Please pay attention if you care. Wishes, Ukrained2012 (talk) 03:55, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Location map

edit

... is somewhat misleading. I think we need pushpin on either Ukraine's map, or Kyiv city map. Remember that the airport is entirely within city limits, kilometers away from them. Ukrained2012 (talk) 00:51, 14 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Still needed. Wishes, Ukrained2012 (talk) 22:20, 11 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I put in a map request within the template for Wikiproject Ukraine. I don't have the technical ability to do anything else.--I dream of horses (T) @ 23:35, 11 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Same here(, but thanks anyway. More help from others, please? Wishes, Ukrained2012 (talk) 00:10, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Naming

edit

Is there any reason the article is called Kyiv International Airport (Zhuliany) and not Kiev International Airport (Zhuliany)? I see it was renamed in 2013 but then renamed back.--Ymblanter (talk) 06:32, 15 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Quick Google search turns up roughly equal numbers for either spelling. The usage of Kyiv in the signage tips the balance for me. And yes, I know that that makes it inconsistent with the city name. English is often inconsistent. --Khajidha (talk) 14:58, 17 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Ultimately, I don't have any particular preference for either but, as Khajidha notes, there is no specific naming convention that stands out as being preferable. By the same token, while there is an argument for the consistency of usage of 'Kiev', there are also arguments for contemporary naming conventions in favour of 'Kyiv'. It's one of those murky areas to be explored as being part of a case-by-case (or article-by-article) discussion. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 06:54, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Leave it Kyiv. I can just see the heads of all those anons exploding trying to comprehend me arguing for Kiev on the city page and for Kyiv here. I don't see it asme being inconsistent about English usage, but as me being consistent in my support of inconsistent English usage. --Khajidha (talk) 10:38, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sadly, I deem your logic to be impeccable in this context. Unless Ymblanter feels strongly about the matter (in which case I'd be willing to make a serious effort to be consistent in the nomenclature), I see it as being similar to the uphill battle in trying to stop Łacinka being used left, right and centre for geographical transliteration conventions in numerous Belarusian articles. One could dedicate all of one's Wikipedia time on this form of argument, but there are far more constructive things to get on with. Admittedly, the use of Łacinka is far more problematic, but it all comes down to a massive headache in the long run. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 05:34, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
No, unlike our Ukrainian vandal guests, I do not have any strong felings about the topic.--Ymblanter (talk) 07:02, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

IEV abbreviation

edit

The three principal disambiguation scenarios are as follows. The lemma links to:

  1. the disambiguation page (general solution)
  2. the primary topic, with a hatnote linking to a disambiguation page (if a clear preference is visible)
  3. the primary topic, with a hatnote linking to a another article (only two lemmas, no disambiguation page needed)

As there are three entries for IEV, I'd suggest that the first option should be chosen. The Zhuliany Airport may be know in the industry but I doubt that this true also for the IATA code - maybe for frequent flyers who have their home base in Kiev. --Gunnar (talk) 22:50, 24 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
