KM (Ground effect vehicle) → Caspian Sea Monster – WP:COMMONNAME and WP:NATURAL. "KM" - the official Russian designation of this ekranoplan - is ambiguous; while the current title is technically correct, WP:NATURAL suggests looking for a reasonably commonly-used alternative English name for a disambiguator before resorting to paraenthical disambiguation, and the KM ekranoplan is far and away commonly known as "Caspian Sea Monster" in the English literature (this is likely the WP:COMMONNAME overall, worldwide, in fact). • Weak support - KM just means "N.P. N.aval P.rototype" it isn't the name, so (the description in brackets) isn't a helpful disambiguation. However, can't help thinking using the NATO nickname isn't very encyclopaedic. So if someone comes up with better than title Caspian Sea Monster please say. Location of the wreck?

Since this was never recovered from the seafloor of the Caspian, do we have coordinates to attach to the article? -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 19:25, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Alexeyev/Alexeev

This article shows both spellings; the Lun article seems to favor the Alexeev spelling. Someone with knowledge of Cyrillic translation should pick one & apply it to every instance in every article. Steve8394 (talk) 23:48, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

Year of destruction

The article states that the KM was destroyed in 1980, but the spy satellite image supposedly of the KM was taken in 1984. Is there an explanation for this inconsistency? - ZLEA _T\^C 18:21, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

Largest Aircraft?

This definition is disputable and due to issues of aircraft designation I wish to bring it to discussion rather than immediately edit this portion. The CAA classifies these as aircraft, however the International Maritime Organization classifies them distinctly and the FAA and EASA classify them as boats. This means that the classification of this craft as the largest aircraft may be true in some nations, but not in others. As wikipedia is a multi-national entity I am unclear how to proceed on this, as forcing any individual definition is arbitrary in these circumstances. Jyggalypuff (talk) 20:16, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Would sources on Ground Effect Vehicle Classifications in general suffice? The Caspian Sea Monster is one such and if ground effect vehicles in general aren’t classified as aircraft than it stands to reason that such a designation is incorrect. Meaning of name

'Screen effect' or 'screen glider'? This article and the Ground effect vehicle article disagree; here we have 'screen effect' as the English translation of the Russian 'ekranoplan', while the GEV article says the English translation is 'screenglider'. IDoThisAtWork The aircraft in those sources is not actually the Caspian Sea Monster, but the similar-looking Lun-class ekranoplan. The Lun-class is identifiable by the six missile launchers mounted on top of the fuselage, which the Caspian Sea Monster lacked. This is simply a case of misidentification by the sources, with the real Caspian Sea Monster still being at the bottom of the sea. - ZLEA _T\^C 23:02, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
