"violent" protests
editSounds like a violation of the supposed NPOV rule. Where's the evidence that the protests are "violent"? 2607:FEA8:A4E5:6A00:81A0:2F84:FF2A:6265 (talk) 22:02, 24 July 2024 (UTC) (Struck per WP:ARBECR - Non-EC editors can only submit edit requests on WP:PIA-related articles. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 02:58, 25 July 2024 (UTC))
- I have removed it for now as I do not see the cited sources characterizing them as violent protests as a whole. For example the Reuters article says that the protests were peaceful, then police used pepper spray and some protesters were injured. Mellk (talk) 22:06, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- Someone's already edited it back lol. Maybe Netanyahu has an account on here. 2607:FEA8:A4E5:6A00:81A0:2F84:FF2A:6265 (talk) 23:28, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- Per NBC, in this article: "
U.S. Capitol Police said in a post on X before 2 p.m.: “Part of the crowd has started to become violent at First Street and Constitution Avenue, NW. The crowd failed to obey our order to move back from our police line. We are deploying pepper spray towards anyone trying to break the law and cross that line.”
Further down the article, it states, "Mitchell Rivard, chief of staff for Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Mich., said his office called for Capitol Police intervention after the demonstrators “became disruptive, violently beating on the office doors, shouting loudly and attempting to force entry into the office.”
The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 23:34, 24 July 2024 (UTC)- The only mention of "violent" in the NBC source is in quotes, referring to some crowds. This is still WP:OR if we are basing it on reports of paper spray being deployed. What we need instead is a secondary source calling the protests as a whole violent. The other refs should not be there if they do not support this.Mellk (talk) 23:34, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) It 100% isn't "original research", since NBC and Capital Police stated it was violent. If you think it is original research, a discussion should be opened on WP:RSN, since that is saying NBC, a reliable source (per WP:RSP) is somehow original research. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 23:36, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- Where in the NBC reporting does it say this aside from the quotes from other people? Mellk (talk) 23:39, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Done. Refs not mentioning "violent" are not cited with the first sentence anymore. A second reference for "violent" was also added by USA Today. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 23:39, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- Again, "violent" is according to the police statement, which is what both sources say. At the very least, it should be attributed. Mellk (talk) 23:53, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- It is attributed via the two sources at the end of the sentence. We can explain in the body of the article that the police described it as violent. But the actual police involved in the conflict stated they were violent, so the word "violent" in the lead is perfectly acceptable. The body should explain in a sentence though that the police stated it was violent. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 23:56, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- So, the sources mention that the police statement says "part of the crowd has started to become violent", which means we can say in wikivoice that these were overall violent protests? Mellk (talk) 00:02, 25 July 2024 (UTC)

- @Adolphus79:. I don't think you knew about this talk page discussion, so please forgive the ping. Two of the citations as well as the Capital Police called it violent protests. The body-portion just hasn't been added yet. Would you mind self-reverting the recent reversion? The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 01:43, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- No, I read this, and stand by my edit... if there is zero mention of any violence in our article, we can not call it a violent protest. Please provide any sources for any violence taking place. And someone "violently" banging on a door is as much violence than someone "violently" shifting gears in their car, that does not entail anyone being hurt or killed. - Adolphus79 (talk) 01:47, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Per your request Adolphus79: See the sentence in the article:
The United States Capitol Police stated the protests were violent.
[1][2] Since you seem to "stand by" your edit even after seeing this, I am genuenly curious on why the following would not constitute a mention of the word "violent"? Per NBC4: "U.S. Capitol Police said in a post on X before 2 p.m.: “Part of the crowd has started to become violent at First Street and Constitution Avenue, NW. The crowd failed to obey our order to move back from our police line. We are deploying pepper spray towards anyone trying to break the law and cross that line.”
You acknowledged knowing of this and just stated "zero mention of any violence". So please tell me why there is zero mention of violence? I really want to see how that sentence by NBC4 above doesn't mention "any" violence. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 01:55, 25 July 2024 (UTC)- For clarity, the police did not say "the protests were violent", they said there was one instance of rowdy protestors not obeying police commands, and pepper spray was deplyed. Zero injuries mentioned, zero fatalities. That does not constitute "a series of violent protests". - Adolphus79 (talk) 02:00, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- I mentioned this above, I am not sure how the police referring to "part of the crowd" as being violent can now mean "a series of violent protests". Mellk (talk) 03:30, 25 July 2024 (UTC)

Sorry, I meant to address that to this "Weather Event Writer" person who seems set on describing the protests themselves as "violent". 2607:FEA8:A4E5:6A00:81A0:2F84:FF2A:6265 (talk) 02:53, 25 July 2024 (UTC)(Struck per WP:ARBECR - Non-EC editors can only submit edit requests on WP:PIA-related articles. July 2024 protest in Washington, D.C. → July 2024 Israel–Hamas war protests in Washington, D.C. – As a frequent visitor and/or resident of the DC area (gotta keep it interesting!) - there are lots of protests in DC, and there’s been more than a few in July. Current title is too ambiguous/vague as a result, and should be specified - would accept “anti-Netanyahu protests” in place of I-H war as well. The Kip (contribs) 00:17, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- Support as less ambiguous (always a good thing!), or I kinda like the July 2024 anti-Netanyahu protests in Washington, D.C. option. Since the second line of the body text even says "On 24 July 2024, thousands of demonstrators gathered in Washington, D.C., to protest Israeli Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu's visit ...", that would imply that these specific protests are focused on his visit and speech. Israel–Hamas war protests in the United States also mentions nothing in D.C. in July. - Adolphus79 (talk) 03:40, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- Alternate proposal: Protests against Benjamin Netanyahu's 2024 visit to the United States, which is in my opinion a less ambiguous title that directly addresses what the protests are about and also means that the date is not ambiguous. (There are Israel–Hamas war protests in D.C. near-constantly both in "2024" and "July 2024" but these are the only ones against his 2024 visit to the United States.) DecafPotato (talk) 06:59, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- What about July 2024 protests against Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the United States? Would specify the date at the beginning as is usually standard on WP. I would also support Adolphus79's suggestion as it is a shorter version of mine (and yours). — That Coptic Guyping me! (talk) (contribs) 22:52, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- That's also fine by me. For the record, I don't like Adolphus's suggestion as much, because a) as a matter of personal preference I don't like just last names in titles except in special exceptions, i.e. I'd rather he be referred to as "Benjamin Netanyahu" in the title instead of just "Netanyahu," and b) I don't think most of the protests were against Netanyahu specifically, e.g. calling for him to step down, but against the war/Israel/Zionism more broadly. DecafPotato (talk) 23:19, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- I think I like this even better... date first, and without the "anti-", seems a little more NPOV... maybe just change "United States" to "Washington, D.C." for specificity? - Adolphus79 (talk) 23:25, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- That'd be great Adolphus. I also agree with you, Decaf, that Bibi's full name belongs there. I guess, then, we've tentatively agreed on something like July 2024 protests against Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington, D.C.. — That Coptic Guyping me! (talk) (contribs) 23:37, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- @The Kip - Thoughts? :) — That Coptic Guyping me! (talk) (contribs) 23:43, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- I'm good either way, my only goal's to get it changed away from the vague title. The Kip (contribs) 22:29, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

editAs this concerns the (alleged but likely) genocide of Palestinians which is a contentious issue, shouldn’t this article be protected? Blepii (talk) 04:29, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
