Seems a pretty simple, non-controversial request. I've gone ahead and done it. Adam Cuerden talk 12:27, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Helwig or Hedwig? edit

There seems to be confusion about the name. Here's what different encyclopedias use:

  • Heilwig (in German) - Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (1876), Christian I
  • Heilwig v. Schleswig-Holstein [changed from Hedw. v. Schleswig-Holstein in print edition] (in German) - Neue Deutsche Biographie 3 (1957) Christian I.
  • Hedevig (in Danish) - Dansk biografisk Lexikon (1887-1905) Christian (Christiern) I
  • Hedevig af Holstein (in Danish) - Dansk Biografisk Leksikon (1979-84): Christian 1.
  • Hedevig (in Danish) - Den Store Danske Lexicon (updated 2024): Christian 1.
  • Hedevig (in Norwegian) - Store Norske Lexikon: Christian 1.
  • Hedvig av Holstein (in Swedish) Svenskt biografiskt lexikon (1975-1977): Kristian I
  • Hedvig of Holstein (in English) - Britannica (updated 2024): Christian I

Not that many reliable English-language sources seem to exist. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 07:48, 30 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

In archive.org, I could find the following English-language books that mention her:

All of them call her Hedvig and Lagerqvist and Bunson also use "of Holstein" as a specifier. Politics and reformations: communities, polities, nations, and empires, Volume 1 calls her Hedwig of Holstein.

I don't have any contemporary primary sources, but in the painted family trees of Christian III (photo) and Christian IV (photo) she is called Hedwigk and Hedevig, respectively. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 20:08, 30 April 2024 (UTC) [Ed. 16:16, 5 May 2024 (UTC)]Reply

As there is no evidence that she would be known in English by the name Helvig of Schauenburg, so I am going to WP:BOLDly move the page. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 21:36, 30 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
