Reversion

edit

As far as I can tell, the only thing the last two edits have done were to delete most of the article and then bring it back de-wikified. Reverting to Luigi-ish's previous edit. Hwonder 16:33, 1 May 2006 (UTC) juanes is the most important latin singer nowadays. He has won 12 latin grammys with only 3 albums and he fights for social causes too. Paul McCarthey honored him for his fight against landmines in colombia and time magazine named him one of the most influential person in 2005. All his singles from his new album reached #1 in US latin charts and latin america and la camisa negra was #1 in seven european countries. Juanes has been the first singer to sing in the european parlament too. Juanes is a tremendous singer.Reply

Reason to make apart discography page

edit

What I've added to the discography page is just a beginning. I'm still planning to expand it. The reason why I think it deserves an apart discography page is that he's already released three albums and more than 10 singles. Not everybody is interested in all that chart information so i figured why not make an apart discography page where we can put all info about the singles. Just like on the Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson article; just showing the release date and the title. If people want to know about the chart positions, they just check the discography page. So no, I don't agree with merging it to Juanes -- Luigi-ish 20:27, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Politically Minded?

edit

I am familiar with his music since he is so extremely well known and popular (not sure where those people who wanted to delete the article are living...?), but I don't know much about his political philosophy. The article says he is politically-minded and that it influcences his music, can anyone elaborate on that at all?24.196.83.29 15:26, 22 October 2006 (UTC)rglongReply

Cacique49 23:15, 13 December 2006 (UTC) Most of his songs, especially those in Mi Sangre talk about the blood shed and wars going on in Columbia. He's very passionate about his homeland -CaciqueReply

Before solo

edit

The article is missing his early life and his time with Ekhymosis. Anyone can get that information to improve this article?--((F3rn4nd0 ))(BLA BLA BLA) 22:23, 20 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

What a coincidence. I just started on creating the section before seeing your comment here. ShadowHalo 19:34, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Medellin, Colombia and Karen Martinez. My apologies, I left out the actual word "wife", but the first part is in the article. ShadowHalo 03:48, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

GA

edit

Very good article, well written, referenced, laid out etc etc One of the better GA's. Only minor issues

  • At the 2005 Latin Grammy Awards, Juanes won three additional awards to his nine previous Grammy awards. This paragraph needs a citation or two
  • Please add WP:PDATA

Goodwork. M3tal H3ad 08:44, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for reviewing the article. I could have sworn I'd added in the reference for the 2005 Latin Grammys, but oh well. It's there now, and I've added the persondata. ShadowHalo 01:11, 12 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Camisa Negra

edit

Why do you have the part about the supposed controversy surrounding the Juanes song "La Camisa Negra" in the introduction of all places. I think the writers of the article are misunderstood in terms of the scope and influence of said controversy. I think it is more notable that the song was #1 across Latin America than when the song was supposedly misinterpreted as neo-fascism.

Year of birth?

edit

Different birth years are given in the article. Which is correct? (the first paragraph, or the box to the right? Or some other date?

some editing

edit

I did some editing to the first paragraph to clarify a little more about his name and music style. I added a few other things here and there. Notably, I added a small part describing in short what "la vida es un ratico" album was, though I believe it still needs more addition. This page really needs to be updated and organized for it can get confusing in some areas and it needs to be broken down more as far as the life from "2002 to present". I will try my hardest to work on this page later on for the interest of everyone out there so please help contribute with references such as awards and numbers on the albums, etc. Marianbonita (talk) 06:58, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

fixing Formatting Error

edit

Someone had deleted about a paragraph of information at the beginning of the 2002 to present section and messed up one of the links to audio, I tried to fix this but someone should make sure it was done correctly because I'm pretty new to editing articles. GA Reassessment

edit
This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Juanes/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

As part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles' Project quality task force ("GA Sweeps"), all old good articles are being re-reviewed to ensure that they meet current good article criteria (as detailed at WP:WIAGA.) I have determined that this article needs some work to meet current criteria, outlined below:

  • There are multiple unsourced statements. There are a bunch of {{cn}} tags in the lead, and looking at the body I don't see where that information is mirrored. Ex:
    • "Juanes can be said to be a Colombian fusion musician because of the combination of Colombian rhythms such as cumbia and vallenato with rock and pop." (vallenato is not used anywhere in the article as a description of his style).
    • "Juanes was a member of heavy metal band Ekhymosis but disbanded the group in 1998 to move to Los Angeles and pursue a solo career." (Los Angeles is never mentioned in the article body.)
    • "In 2006, he recorded a duet of "The Shadow of Your Smile" with Tony Bennett for Bennett's Duets: an American Classic."
    • "In May 2007, People en español reported that Juanes had separated from Martínez, however, the pair never officially reported their split. Reporters started to link him with various Colombian celebrities, but all of their claims seemed poorly based, and lacked evidence. A scandal occurred when it was made public that Juanes had had an affair, which he was forced to break off and publicly apologize for. Martínez and he announced their divorce following this event. In September 2007, Juanes began promoting his new album with Martínez at his side and referred to the split as a "rough patch", the type that every couple goes through, but assured that they are still together.", entirely unsourced, possible BLP issue (I've gone ahead and removed it until a source can be found.)
    • ""La vida... es un ratico" was released on Oct 23, 2007 with the first single being "Me Enamora" (it makes me fall in love). The second single was "Gotas de Agua Dulce" (drops of sweet water), and the third single became the vallenato fusion of "Tres" (three)."
    • "In November 24, 2008, Juanes re-released the album as "La Vida Es Un Ratico En Vivo [Deluxe Edition][2 CD/DVD Combo]" The album aside the 14 original songs, contains two previously unreleased songs: "Falsas Palabras" (false words) and "Odio por amor" (hate for love) which is also the current single. This new re-edition also includes seven live versions of songs played during his U.S. La Vida Tour. As another bonus added, Juanes also included a duet of his song "Hoy Me Voy" (today I leave) with US singer Colbie Caillat. The DVD contains the music videos of the four singles of the cd as well as a few live video recordings of the US tour."
    • There's more throughout, that's just through "2002–present: Mainstream popularity".
  • There's no information about his early/nonprofessional life. We get a few scraps of information at the end of the article, but as structured they aren't that much use there, especially considering the wife and kids are mentioned earlier. I would take some of the info here and use it as part of an Early life section, then incorporate the rest where appropriate.
  • "2009 Peace Concert in Cuba" subsection seems a tad heavily weighted, seeing as it's roughly as long as half his biography section earlier. Seeing as there's a main article anyhow, this should be summarized.
  • What makes VOY Music, canales.diariovasco.com, and Eskpe reliable sources? Also, all refs need to be consistently and fully formatted with all relevant information (author, accessdate, publisher, etc.) in the footnotes.
  • A paragraph requires at least three sentences; all the one or two-sentence groupings need to be cut, merged together, or expanded.
  • Images/Non-free content: Considering we have so many other free images of the artist, how does File:JuanesEuropeanParliament.jpg meet WP:NFCC? Likewise, none of the songs sampled (File:NadaValgoSinTuAmor.ogg, File:LaCamisaNegra.ogg, File:ADiosLePido.ogg, File:Fotografia.ogg) seem to have the amount of critical commentary in the article needed to justify their inclusion.

I am putting the article on hold for one week, longer if significant progress is made on the above. Keep me appraised of progress on this page. Thanks, Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 21:05, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Age when founding Ekhymosis

edit

The article says Juanes founded Ekhymosis when he was 17, but the Spanish language biography sites I have read about him say it was when he was 15, though this is just a few biography sites off Google. I have not seen a Spanish language source say he founded Ekhymosis at age 17. Some examples:
