2 teams down, 28 to go
editJust for reference, here's my general methodology.
- Make an Excel spreadsheet, and put in columns on each side with a [[ and a ]] with a column for the names in between. Next to the [[, I put a column for a *. Copy and paste those rows until infinity. To the left of the column with the *, I use a concatenate formula to add the 4 columns to the right into one string.
- Go to a team page, and copy the Rosters into Notepad
- Copy Roster info into Excel, eventually I want to make a list of players by number. I paste the info into a column for name and for number, and I use macros that get rid of numbers and letters respectively. I then do a REPLACE function on the name column for 2 spaces, which lines it up.
- Check the players that are not American(since they're the vast majority), put in their info into a Nationality column, and then copy and paste "United States" into the other cells. It seems the majority of players are from the US.
- Sort by team and then nationality and insert all the people I have not yet inserted. I am taking teams by alphabetical order, by league. There will probably be a different spreadsheet for each league.

Third team added
edit(so far, Baltimore, Boston and the Yankees, Toronto and Tampa Bay next -- i'm going by division.) I'll assist on formatting later, luckily, I can skip the Canadian players, which have already been done apparently. Karmafist 15:18, 24 July 2005 (UTC)
Alphabetical order
editWhen adding new players to the list, please make sure they the list is in alphabetical order. Currently, it's very hard to find anyone within the bigger countries' lists. --Idont Havaname 20:42, 24 July 2005 (UTC)
- I'm thinking of making separate articles for the larger countries' lists, eventually it'll get tough anyway with the U.S Karmafist 01:15, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
Slightly More Than Half of the American League Done
editThe entire American League East is in there now as well as the White Sox, Detroit and Cleveland is in there now in addition to the Canadians. Karmafist 03:43, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
Two Divisions Complete and a Modified Methodology
editThe AL East and Central is complete, and i've added a few things to my methodology above.
- A column with nothing but a space in it between the * and the [[ as well as in between the first names.
- Previously, I just typed in the entire name, for those columns I used the Text to Columns option in the Data menu and used the space inbetween their first and last names as a delineator.
- Then I sort by nationality and then by last name, and copy and paste the wikified cells into notepad and then into wikipedia.
Sooner or later, the accented characters will need to be added, my keyboard does not allow me to directly type ASCII characters using the ALT combinations for some reason. Karmafist 18:07, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
American League Done
editI'm not going to add the September Callups, but others can.Karmafist 17:35, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Israel
editThere are no Israeli MLB'ers. I edited this out. I will continue to do so. Mwinog2777 03:56, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
Italy
editSame as aboveMwinog2777 03:56, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
This list is just every MLB player with a last name ending in a vowel. Should we be including every "Mc"Something in Ireland's list as well? Thejimoleary (talk) 15:17, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
By position
editIs it alright if I organize each country according to position. I would list either by specific position or by infielders, outfielders, starting, and relief pitchers. Please let me know if this will be a problem. Music+mas (talk) 19:14, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Puerto Rico is a United States territory
editPuerto Ricans are Americans by birth, they are NOT foreigners. This caused several people to get angry at my trivia night last night when a question was clearly inspired by this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.145.181.245 (talk) 12:12, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
This has been done. 38.106.100.57 (talk) 02:53, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
Nationality vs ethnicity
editHank Conger is listed as a Korean national, yet he was born in the US and is a US citizen. So does this page display players by nationality as the title suggests, or by ethnicity as is the case with Hank Conger? He may be ethnically Korean, but his nationality is USA. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.109.40.150 (talk) 02:34, 26 September 2012 (UTC) There are multiple cases of players who are Americans being listed according to the national origin of their surname; Travis Ishikawa, Kurt Suzuki, and two of the three listed Italians, to start with. Serious problems here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.88.0.109 (talk) 02:42, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah this page has lots of issues. Anthony Rizzo is a great example. He is American, not "Italian". --User:Woohookitty Disamming fool! 11:36, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Ditto this. Most of the "Italian" players are Americans who might be of Italian heritage, but they're not Italian citizens. Suggest deleting most of that list.
Dominican Republic List
editThe list for the DR is WAY too short. There are 84 Dominican players in MLB this year, according to Reuters and the list includes just 15 of them. Can someone fix this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.246.240.72 (talk) 23:03, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
Discussion on composition of list
editThere is a discussion about the compsoition of this list at the Baseball Wikiproject that editors of this article might be interested in. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 22:51, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
