Move discussion for this article and Bangkok Bus Terminal (Borommaratchachonnani)

edit

First, I'd like to justify my rationale on boldly moving this article alongside Bangkok Bus Terminal (Borommaratchachonnani) by quoting a text from a move discussion I participated in:

+1; I agree with SMcCandlish's closing that there is not consensus for including "Windows" in the title, and further that there is no consensus for any "-[something]" construction at all; various editors have favored shorter versions, and this would be more consonant with WP:CONCISE policy. My personal view is lengthy titles should be avoided when something like "2024 CrowdStrike outage" or "2024 CrowdStrike IT outage" are clearly identifiable. Article titles don't need to properly attribute the exact causes of the incident; there's a reason no one is pushing for "Channel File 291 Incident". I think this will go smoother if we stop creating options from grafting together everyone's specific concerns. Options like 2024 global CrowdStrike outages affecting Windows systems go well beyond what is necessary for disambiguation. Dylnuge (TalkEdits) 14:57, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

My interpretation for WP:CONCISE is that unlike in Thai Wikipedia where lengthy but more complete titles are more preferable, English Wikipedia prefer shortest possible title without ambiguity.

Though, in retrospective, @Paul012 was right about Mo Chit 2 or Sai Tai Mai being too short for proper context in English language. That said I still want to move these articles to better names as word ordering in Thai is different than in English.

My proposal new article names are either

  1. Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal
  2. Sai Tai Mai Bus Terminal
  3. Ekkamai Bus Terminal

or:

  1. Chatuchak Bus Terminal
  2. Borommaratchachonnani Bus Terminal
  3. Ekkamai Bus Terminal

Or any other naming schemes where the specific location of each of the 3 Bus Terminals in Bangkok precedes "Bus Terminal". Jothefiredragon🐲talk🐉edits 15:04, 8 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I don't think the Crowdstrike discussion is really relevant here. That was a news event without an actual name, so people were trying to come up with a descriptive title. These bus stations, on the other hand, are named physical places.
I generally agree that the full WP:official names are rather cumbersome and not immediately recognisable. Commonly used short names would be preferrable if they're commonly recognisable, natural and precise. For Mo Chit 2, the Chatuchak name isn't nearly as recognisable as the common nickname, but I'm not sure if "Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal" is how it's actually referred to in English. News sources usually say "Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak), also known as Mo Chit 2," then continue to use "Mo Chit 2" throughout. Other less careful sources often just call it "Mo Chit Bus Terminal", but that's inaccurate, and won't work as the actual Mo Chit Bus Terminal is a different place that already has an article. Rethinking the issue, your original move to Mo Chit 2 doesn't actually seem so bad, but I'm open to including "bus terminal" (uncapitalised, as it's not part of the nickname).
With the southern station, however, "Sai Tai Mai" alone looks really weird in English to me, as สายใต้ใหม่ is not actually a name but a phrase that means 'new southern line'. The translated name New Southern Bus Terminal is quite often used and would probably be the best option (maybe not immediately recognisable without the mention of Bangkok in the name, but it doesn't seem to be used elsewhere and already redirects to the article). There are actually two stations that have been referred to as sai tai mai, but since we don't have an article on the older one, it's not that big of an issue.
The case for Ekkamai Bus Terminal is probably the clearest, but we don't have an article about it yet. --Paul_012 (talk) 13:21, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Paul 012
If your suggestions for the new article titles are:
  1. Mo Chit 2 bus terminal
  2. New Southern Bus Terminal
  3. Ekkamai Bus Terminal
Then I have no problem with these names. Shall I move the pages? Jothefiredragon🐲talk🐉edits 04:18, 10 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Let's wait a few days to see if anyone has further input. --Paul_012 (talk) 10:16, 10 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
User:Jothefiredragon, it's been a week now, I think it should be fine to go ahead. --Paul_012 (talk) 01:28, 17 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
