Starting review, checking quick fail criteria. Jezhotwells (talk) 23:06, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Quick fail criteria assessment

  1. The article completely lacks reliable sources – see Wikipedia:Verifiability.
    •
  2. The topic is treated in an obviously non-neutral way – see Wikipedia:Neutral point of view.
    •
  3. There are cleanup banners that are obviously still valid, including cleanup, wikify, NPOV, unreferenced or large numbers of fact, clarifyme, or similar tags.
    •
  4. The article is or has been the subject of ongoing or recent, unresolved edit wars.
    •
  5. The article specifically concerns a rapidly unfolding current event with a definite endpoint.
    •

Pass no problems there. Jezhotwells (talk) 23:11, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Checking against GA criteria

edit
  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose):
    • Publication history:  Pass
    • Fictional character biography: "The origin of Bane has similarities with another fictional character, Alexandre Dumas' Edmond Dantès." looks like [[WP:OR to me. Jezhotwells (talk) 15:32, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • Powers and abilities: one citation needed tag needs addressing.
    • Television:  Pass
    • Film:  Pass
    • Video games: in DC Universe online a reference is needed.
    • Toys:  Pass
    • Lead: it is generally considered best to not reference statements in the lead as they should be referenced in the main article. The statement about Bane being intended as a "dark mirror" of Doc Savage, should be be put in the Publication history section and perhaps slightly amplified. Jezhotwells (talk) 23:34, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
    b (MoS):
    Does it meet WP:WAF? I think I'd disagree. Hiding T 20:21, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
    a (references):
    • The article appears to be well referenced. But #2 is broken, #33 does not support the statement that Bane is a character in the game, #34 doesn't mention Bane or the actor, #38 & #39 should explicitly state that they are from the Internet archive, #40 doesn't support the statements cited, #41 links to Batman's buggy, no mention of Bane. I assume WP:AGF for the printed material not available on line. Jezhotwells (talk) 00:12, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • The replacement source used for #2 absoluteastronomy.com takes it material from Wikipedia so is not a reliable source. #29 dc.wikia is not a WP:RS, #36 does not mention Bane, neither does #37. #41 doesn't mention Bane, #43, #44 need to be correctly attributed to the Internet Archive. #45 doesn't mention Bane, neither does #46. Jezhotwells (talk) 15:24, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • Reference #4 is interesting as much of the text in the Fictional biography appears to be lifetd staright from it. that is grounds for immediately failing the nomination on WP:COPYVIO (Copyright violation) Jezhotwells (talk) 13:51, 20 April 2009 (UTC) Ok, I made a mistake there - completed missed the GFDL compliancy tag on that page. I still would like to see the Fictional biography trimmed as per previous remarks. Jezhotwells (talk) 15:02, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • Reference #29 is to a blog which is not allowed; same for reference #30; refrence #35 does not support the statement The caretaker later enters a catatonic state from an overdose of Venom during a fight with Terry McGinnis, Bruce Wayne's successor as Batman.; reference #36 is another wiki which is not allowable as a WP:RS; reference #42 doesn't mention Batman Beyond; reference #43 doesn't mention Bane; neither does reference #44; neither does #45; neither does #48; #52 does not support the statements "Each came packaged with a figure stand specific to that particular series, with no other accessories." or "Both versions of this figure came with a small "Osito" accessory, although many of the first version seem to have been shipped to stores without."; #53 does not mention Bane or his hideout. Jezhotwells (talk) 20:21, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
    b (citations to reliable sources):
    c (OR):  As far as
    • The statement "The origin of Bane has similarities with another fictional character, Alexandre Dumas' Edmond Dantès." looks like OR
  3. It is broad in its scope.
    a (major aspects):
    • The article is suitably broad in scope
    b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales):
b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

OK as explained above, I am failing this nomination due to the copyright violations detected in the Fictional biography section. I have placed a notice on the page and on your talk page. It would be in your best interests to remove all copy-vio material ASAP and rewrite it. If you are doing so then you can remove the notice on the artcile page and I would suggest that you put up an under construction stag whilst you re-write it. When you have done, feel free to renominate. Jezhotwells (talk) 13:51, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

My mistake, see above, review reinstated. Will check the new references later. Jezhotwells (talk) 15:02, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

OK, there are still a lot of references which are either unacceptable or do not support the statements that they are attched to.
The Fictional biography still needs to be heavily trimmed. Please address these issues. Reamining on hold. Jezhotwells (talk) 20:21, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I see that although there has been a lot of editing the poiNts raised in my review have not been addressed. I am not awarding GA status. Please bring back to WP:GAN when these points have been addressed. Jezhotwells (talk) 16:48, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
