Development

What information should be added to this article to improve it? Without duplicating large quantities of information from other articles on the use of firearms by police in the UK, i cannot think of anything else to develop it. MP5

The British Police weapons are semi automatic, they are not allowed to use fully auto so I dont think it is suitable to put the MP5 as a submachine gun because it does not fire in that way. (Police Mad Jack)

just because they are not allowed to doesn't mean the gun isn't a sub. unless you can prove they are modified so. ninety:one 14:25, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

It is undoubtably true that an MP5 is a Sub Machine gun, but what I was doing is not naming its classification of a sub, assualt rifle, bolt actionr ifle etc. I was simply naming the style in which the firearm fires its ammunition in. Police,Mad,Jack (talk · contribs)☺ 14:35, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

I changed it to submachine gun, a carbine isnt a weapon firing semi-automatically, its a shortened rifle. Its a submachinegun, thats been modified (If it has actually beed modified, and the officers in question arent just under orders) to fire it in semi-automatic. The MP5 is a submachine gun, but UK police forces do not like to use the terms 'submachine gun' or 'assault rifle' (they used to use these terms but they created a lot of contreversy as they sound too military - although i doubt that ACPO would admit that this is the reason for the change). Therefore they classify weapons which would normally be called submachine guns or assault rifles as 'carbines'. Hope that helps. SW3C (talk) 03:13, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
