Qualified athletes

edit

Dear @Raymarcbadz:: Please stop adding the athletes to the articles, even though they won the qualifier, the quota belongs to the country NOC and NOT to the athlete, this is only confirmed when the NOC publish their delegations list, (see for example the Rio 2016 delegation), and this won't be available until a few days/months before the 2020 Games.--BugWarp (talk) 15:13, 1 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello @BugWarp:. Kindly read and check the article. [1]. What's the difference? What's the selection criteria for the Argentine swimmers? You might also remove her name in this link, if you think that the quota does not belong to hers. Thank you! Raymarcbadz (talk) 19:36, 1 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I know it's hard to think about it with one athlete, so let's think this way: Take for example the Rugby Sevens team (who also qualified), how can you guarantee that the entire squad that won the qualification would make it to Tokyo? One (or more) player can retire, get injured, etc. And the coaches and NOC directors want "the best of the best", and perhaps the qualification is "not as hard" as the Olympic tournament.
To see another example, the football squads that take part on the World Cup qualification, is not necessarily the same as the one who actually goes to the tournament. And you can see this article from TyC Sports (who has a close relationship with the Argentine Olympic Committee) about the very first Argentine qualification to the Games, which says:

Claro que esa plaza no es nominal, sino que pertenece a Argentina, que podría otorgársela a otro atleta, aunque en este caso eso sería poco probable.

Which translates to :

Of course, this place is not nominal, but rather belongs to Argentina, and could be granted to another athlete, although this is very unlikely.

Have a nice day!--BugWarp (talk) 22:43, 1 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Alright. As you may know, swimmers and track and field athletes, especially those who sent few, can be selected under the qualifying cut within the qualification period since it is still ongoing. I placed Delfina Pignatiello on the table because she already qualified and attained the FINA A-cut (the mandatory standard and top priority at this moment) within the given period and I assure the NOC would recognize her, unless a selection swimming criteria has been released for your respective NOC at the Games. (You might want to include the track and field athletes on the page). Same applies to Sergio Villamayor, who directly qualified for the Games in the men's modern pentathlon. The sailors and shooters, unlike the swimmers or modern pentathletes, got the quotas only for the team earlier, not by themselves. The NOC has the prerogative to select their athletes based on their performances and criteria set for the Games. Got it? Raymarcbadz (talk) 15:02, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
