Religion?

edit

Personally I don't care what religion Alisson is or if it even needs to be included in the article. However I would like to point out that this source in the article says that the individual is Catholic, while these 2 Portuguese language sources say that he is Evangelical. Requested move 2 June 2019

edit
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: No consensus. The proposed move has not gained a consensus to move, with WP:COMMONNAME arguments on the one hand and WP:NATURALDIS arguments on the other. However, there was a proposal made to switch over to having it simply at the primary topic, Alisson. I will therefore open a fresh request to explore that option.  — Amakuru (talk) 09:18, 18 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Alisson (footballer, born 1992)Alisson Becker – I think this is better than the current name with a long disambiguation (makes reach to article more difficult and complex), "Alisson Becker" is unique and easily identify, he use this name in his Social media accounts, and official Liverpool FC website use this name, many newspapers and many references use this name also. Ibrahim.ID 04:48, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

This is not accurate, because many people have "Alisson" name on internet, so google will give you a lot of results, Second: search results for "Alisson Becker" is part of "Alisson" results, Third: when he played in (AS Roma) they use "Alisson Becker" name ([1] [2] [3]) --Ibrahim.ID 20:54, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose It's easy enough to navigate to this page, I see no problems with the title and wikipedia tree to get here, also what Matty said, sounds like the article is near enough on the Common-name already. Govvy (talk) 15:48, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom, textbook example of WP:NATURALDIS, i.e "an alternative name that the subject is also commonly called in English reliable sources, albeit not as commonly as the preferred-but-ambiguous title". I expect the name "Alisson Becker" will be better known and more recognisable than his year of birth, especially when we have Alisson (footballer, born 1993). PC78 (talk) 17:48, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  •   Comment: It isn't easy to navigate to this page, when you search for "Alisson" it give you a disambiguation page, every time you have to visit the disambiguation page to reach this page. otherwise, you have to write (Alisson (footballer, born 1992)) !! that make creating internal link hard, why do we make things complicated? we shouldn't forget: Wikipedia Five pillars (Wikipedia has no firm rules), we should make it easier specially when "Alisson Becker" is a common name also and doesn't break the policies --Ibrahim.ID 20:54, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

For WP:reliable source as evidence , it seem "Alisson " is the common name, see BBC and La Gazzetta news reports. Matthew hk (talk) 13:38, 4 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - His common name is Alisson, more so than Alisson Becker. – PeeJay 16:41, 4 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Per GiantSnowman. Unreal7 (talk) 17:47, 4 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • I don't think anyone disputes that he is more commonly known as just "Alisson", the issue here is the parenthical disambiguator and whether or not that is the best way to distinguish him from other people named Alisson, especially when there is another mononymously known footballer who was born the following year. Naming conventions do not require us to use the most common name in this situation, and as noted above "Alisson Becker" does get sufficient usage, not least from Liverpool football club and the player himself. That said, I think there may be a case for making him the primary topic and droping the disambiguation altogether, though it may be best to have a separate discussion once this one has played out. PC78 (talk) 11:01, 5 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - his commonname is Alisson, but he is well known by his last name too, and wears it on his jersey. Also, adding his last name is a better disambiguator than year of birth in this case.--Ortizesp (talk) 15:00, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

– In the above move request it was proposed to move to Alisson Becker, which is a naturally disambiguated name. I closed that as no consensus, since there were equal arguments on both sides. However, it was also proposed that this footballer is the primary topic over the other entries at disambiguation page Alisson. As a well-capped player for Brazil, and at one of the world's top clubs, he seems to qualify for long-term significance. He is also overwhelmingly the leader in page views. This would satisfy the WP:NATURALDIS argument made above as well. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 09:23, 18 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Alisson Becker

edit

I know it was discused before, but even UEFA and his club call him "Alisson Becker" ([4], [5]). It's a bit confusing for some when searching for him on english wikipedia since in most wikis he is "Alisson Becker" (fr:Alisson Becker, pl:Alisson Becker, es:Alisson Becker, de:Alisson Becker, it:Alisson Becker, etc.) Why here was recently renamed to "Alisson"? --Miaow 15:34, 30 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Even has Becker on the back of his jersey. —Jonny Nixon (talk) 13:09, 29 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Addition of note about varying height measurements?

edit

I have noticed this for a while, but thought I should ask here. I noticed that at sites such as here: [6] which is the squad list for the FIFA Club World Cup from 2019 that Alisson's height is listed as 193cm as opposed to the current listing of 191cm.

Should it be noted that there are varying measurements for Alisson like in Cristiano Ronaldo's article about his height? -- DaBestMonEva (talk) 22:26, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Goleiro Gato

edit

In the article it says Alisson gained the "Goleiro Gato" nickname due to his reflexes (instictive and reaction saves). That could not be farther from the truth as even source 88 makes this distinction clear, in Brazilian Portuguese saying someone is "Gato" is slang for someone being beautiful or pretty. This is where his nickname comes from. Can also be seen from these articles in Portuguese the usage of gato as meaning beautiful/pretty.

AlissonAlisson Becker – He has had 'A.BECKER' on his shirt for many years now, so although he originally went by just Alisson, that is not the case anymore. His club team Liverpool FC's official website lists him as Becker: https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team/player/alisson-becker. His name on his official Instagram account is also Alisson Becker: https://www.instagram.com/alissonbecker/. The fact that he is still often referred to as simply Alisson is at least partly due to the title of the Wikipedia page. Most people who refer to him as only Alisson will still be aware that his name is Alisson Becker even if they do not say Becker, that makes it a more recognisable page name in a long list where the topic of the page is not clear. My opinion is that the title Alisson is too ambiguous, whereas Alisson Becker would be clear to everybody. KnowfulDonkey (talk) 20:47, 16 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
